John,
When you support Common Cause, you’re making a smart investment in the state and local-level democracy fights that matter most.
Why? Because that's where election deniers and extremist politicians are working the hardest to push their anti-democracy agenda. But thanks to your support and advocacy, we've secured three major wins in just the past few weeks.
-
In Massachusetts, our team helped pass a crucial gun safety bill that bans firearms within 150 feet of voting sites. It’s sad but true -- with political tensions running high, we must take bold action to ensure voters can cast their ballots without fear of intimidation. Common Cause Massachusetts lobbied and organized to get this bill to Gov. Healey’s desk and secure her signature, ensuring polling places remain safe and accessible for everyone.
-
In California, we’re expanding language access to communities who were previously shut out – including voters who speak Arabic or Farsi at home. That impacts nearly 3 million eligible Californians who identify as limited-English proficient – and will now have better access to voting materials they can read and understand. Once Gov. Newsom signs the bill, it’ll send a clear message that EVERY eligible voter deserves a voice in our democracy.
-
And in Nebraska, we’re taking legal action to demand government transparency! In Mick v. Gibbons, the State of Nebraska is claiming sovereign immunity to shield state patrol officers from giving sworn testimony – including in cases of police misconduct. If their defense succeeds, ordinary Nebraskans will be shut out from holding their government accountable when it violates their rights. That’s why Common Cause Nebraska filed an amicus brief to fight this cover-up attempt — and we’ll speak up for our right to know what our government is doing in our names every step of the way.
John, we couldn’t achieve this without you. When we work together, we can make real change. At every level — national, state, and local — Common Cause is working across the aisle to stop attacks on our rights and pass pro-democracy laws.
If you've ever written a letter to your lawmakers, thank you. If you've donated in response to our appeals, thank you. Together, our 1.5 million supporters make all of this possible.
And as we gear up for what many are calling the most important election of our lifetimes, we’re not letting up.
Right now, we're rapidly expanding our Election Protection program and mobilizing members across the country as nonpartisan election volunteers — because, like you, we know our democracy works best when every eligible voter can make their voice heard.
So as our team gears up to combat voter suppression ahead of November's presidential election, I'm grateful we’re doing this side-by-side with you. Because of members like you, John, I’m confident that the best days of our democracy still lie ahead.
