Survival has unique relationships with Indigenous communities, and we’re often the people they turn to in a crisis. They need to know that we can act quickly, without pausing to raise funds, and that we will stand with them for as long as it takes. It is the legacies we have been gifted, both large and small, that make this possible. When we heard that mining companies had started destroying the rainforest of uncontacted Hongana Manyawa people in Indonesia, we were able to quickly go there, do the research, and launch a global campaign to stop it. If we hadn't, few people outside Indonesia would have known this was happening. Now, companies have already started to back off - and our campaign will continue until the Hongana Manyawa are safe in their forest. Legacy gifts make it possible for Survival to act quickly and decisively when catastrophe threatens.
