Dear friend, it’s your Congresswoman, Gwen Moore, and I hope you are doing well and enjoying the last weeks of summer. As the House wraps up the district work period, I wanted to share what I’ve been up to. During this time, I joined community leaders and advocates in spotlighting federal funds already making a difference in Milwaukee and discussed major needs in our community, like affordable housing.
Back to School Bus Tour
With the American Rescue Plan Act, Democrats provided much-needed funds to help schools safely reopen and students recover academically. This week, I joined Secretary Cardona, CDC Director Mandy Cohen, and White House Domestic Policy Advisor Neera Tanden to discuss these investments and what we can do to combat chronic absenteeism in Milwaukee.
Supporting Environmental Education in Milwaukee
Neighborhood House promotes active engagement, community, and encourages our future generations to be good stewards of Mother Earth. I was glad to join Neighborhood House in recognizing their EPA grant, which will support their hands-on environmental education curriculum.
Supporting Water Technology Innovation Efforts in Milwaukee
It was exciting to join the Water Council and Veolia North America and other local officials to discuss an exciting new grant proposal which would help our region lead in water technology innovation and support new cutting-edge research and development. In addition, the proposal is focused on creating a diverse water workforce with good-paying jobs and improving the water infrastructure in our communities.
Expanding Access to Affordable Housing
Affordable housing is such a pressing need in Milwaukee, which is why I was excited to join Acting Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary and Mayor Johnson in visiting new affordable housing units at the former McKinley St. School and discuss ways to make homeownership more attainable for my constituents.
The Tangible Benefits of the Inflation Reduction Act in our Community
Air quality is a public health issue, and we are working to ensure every community can breathe clean air in Milwaukee. The Love My Air program is funded by the Inflation Reduction Act and is helping students and church staff at Hopkins Lloyd Community School and Hephatha Lutheran Church in Milwaukee know their air quality in real time. We celebrated the second anniversary of this historic legislation, and the real life benefits it’s already providing to our community.
