One Nation Celebrates the 250^th Anniversary of Captain Cook’s Arrival in Australia

On the 29^th of April 1770, 250 years ago, Captain James Cook made landfall at Botany Bay.

From this incredible act of navigation and exploration, Captain Cook laid the foundations from which modern Australia would grow.

History should remember Captain Cook and the other intrepid souls who accompanied him on his voyage aboard the HMS Endeavour as akin to a modern astronaut.

And when children are taught of his great achievements, it should be accompanied with great feelings of pride and patriotism.

This is why One Nation will always celebrate the achievements of Captain Cook.

Despite the best efforts of some, the Australia that exists today is one of the most prosperous and freest nations in the world.

Modern Australia is a nation that shares its abundance and good fortune with all who rightfully call themselves Australian citizens, regardless of their heritage or the colour of their skin.

It is this legacy that Captain James Cook leaves the world.

The modern Australia we see today exists as a living monument to his achievements.

A monument that stands in defiance of all those who seek to rewrite history and tear down the brave men and women who helped build this nation.

So this week we celebrate not just the 250^th anniversary of Captain Cook’s journey to Australia, we celebrate the man himself.

Long may his achievements inspire our great nation’s future generation to strive to create a better Australia for all who call it home.

Once again, the rights of lawful firearm owners are under attack as the Labor Government seek to exploit the Chinese coronavirus pandemic to destroy legitimate Queensland businesses.

This is why One Nation’s Stephen Andrew is asking all Queenslanders to sign his petition seeking your support to allow Queensland gun shops to go back to regular trading.

These restrictions targeting lawful gun owners were originally introduced after the Queensland Health Minister raised concerns about a possible increase in firearm-related domestic violence resulting from COVID-19 restrictions. Those concerns have since proved to be unfounded.

The evidence now shows that imposing (and subsequently lifting) restrictions delivered no significant change in the number of firearm-related domestic violence incidences.

Businesses are already struggling as a result of social distancing regulations and do not need additional burdens being imposed on unfounded claims.

One Nation In The West
One Nation in the West has been proudly working hard as part of “Team WA” to help our state reach the milestone of zero recorded new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours on April 20th.

We realised early in this crisis that our MPs had a valuable role to play not just in amplifying important health messages but also to be a voice for people whose circumstances may not have been capture by the various stimulus and relief schemes.

On March 24, we wrote to the WA Premier calling for a moratorium on power disconnections and also for him to consider relief for businesses faced with paying government licence fees at a time when they could not operate.

On March 31, the Premier announced his government would waive $100 million in government licence fees and that no family would have their power cut off if they could not pay their bills due to the coronavirus economic crisis.

This is a win for One Nation and the people of WA.

The pandemic has also exposed how, in the clamour for tourism dollars, successive WA Governments - indeed jurisdictions the world over - have for decades turned a blind eye to the ethical and operating shortcomings of the cruise industry. WA One Nation Leader Colin Tincknell has called for new rules of engagement before cruise ships are allowed to re-enter our ports. A link to Colin's post can be found below.

Colin further called on WA Treasurer Ben Wyatt to fast track State Government payments to suppliers and on WA Defence Issues Minister Paul Papalia, to liaise with his Federal counterpart to have Western Australians stranded interstate flown home on Australian Air Force planes.

One Nation MLC Robin Scott also asked in Parliament if the WA Premier would follow the example of New Zealand and recommend state MPs take a 20% pay cut lasting six months to show solidarity with those affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

One Nation in WA also continues to work toward selecting and preparing candidates for the State Election in March 2021.
That is this weeks recap from One Nation.
While you're here, we'd love to ask a favour. We are a party with fewer resources than Labor with their union donations and the Liberals with their big corporates, but with your help and by listening to the people, we can achieve real change in parliament for the betterment of the country.

One Nation is run on purely grassroots support. We rely on the contributions of mums, dads, daughters and sons from the top to bottom of Australia to stay running as a party and every dollar counts.

We appreciate times are tough but even a small amount of support makes a difference. Your help enables us to keep up the fight in politics and get Australia back on track.
