Did you wear a keffiyeh on your first day of school? How about vandalizing your campus?
If not, then you probably didn’t go to Columbia University.
In the first few hours of the day, radical activists drenched the Alma Mater statue in blood-red paint in protest of the state of Israel.
Flyers were passed out reading “Glory to Gaza” where embracing “all forms of Palestinian resistance” was celebrated.
Far-left protesters pressured students from going to class by forming a mob around the entrance of campus. They chanted “There is only one solution… Intifada revolution.”
You know as well as I do what “resistance” and “Intifada revolution” means -- the destruction of the state of Israel and Western civilization more broadly.
In 2024, students fear for their safety on the first day of school. Jewish students in particular fear that they will be followed and harassed like they were last year.
You and I know all of this could be avoided if Columbia’s administration reprimanded student leaders last school year who caused chaos and hate to spread on campus.
But instead, the students who were arrested for taking over Hamilton Hall and holding a janitor hostage were released without facing a single charge.
Not one of these students was expelled by the university. In fact, many of them are in good standing according to a House of Representatives report.
That is why all summer long, you and I brought our mobile billboard trucks to the homes of Columbia’s student leaders who spread hate and violence on campus. You and I knew that these students must be taught that actions have consequences.
Not only that, but throughout the last academic year, you and I pressured then-President Minouche Shafik to resign for failing to maintain order and safety on campus.
Thankfully, our activism worked, and she finally resigned in disgrace just a few weeks ago.
But I assured you our activism would not stop there.
That is why I returned to Columbia with our mobile billboards. I displayed the names and faces of returning students who played a role in spreading violence and hate on campus last year.
I want these students to know that you and I have not forgotten what they have done. I want the administration to know that even with Shafik gone, you and I will not stop pressuring them to take significant action against antisemitism and violence on campus.
Our tactics have proven to be effective time and time again, but John, they are most effective when our team can act swiftly and decisively. That is why I need your help.
