John -
On Saturday, I was honored to stand at a rally in Duboce Park with SEIU Local 87 (the Janitors’ Union), United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 5, and UFCW Local 648 as they announced their endorsements of our campaign for mayor.
Here is what the leaders of those unions said:
“Labor Day has brought the San Francisco mayoral race into focus and Ahsha Safaí is clearly the candidate of labor,” said Olga Miranda, President of SEIU Local 87, which represents janitors.
“Ahsha Safaí is the candidate who working families can count on,” said Jim Araby, Strategic Campaigns Director and Vice President of UFCW Local 5.
“Nobody will fight harder for working families and make a bigger difference than Ahsha Safaí,” said Dan Larson, President of UFCW Local 648.
Our campaign now has more organized labor union endorsements than any candidate in this race.
Why is this such a big deal?
Because over recent weeks, as the billionaire-backed candidates have dropped more and more big money into this race and even more billionaires weighed in in support of their chosen candidate, it has now become clear that this election is a battle for the very soul of San Francisco.
San Francisco’s working families have simply been forgotten by the current mayor, and, as a result, economic inequality is worse in this city than when the mayor took office. If we are going to make real progress in the fight against economic inequality in San Francisco, we must unite behind a pro-working families agenda and tell the billionaires and the wealthy special interests backing the other candidates with one strong, united voice that they don’t own this city, that they cannot buy the mayor’s office, and that in San Francisco, working people come first!
Ours is the campaign that is ready for this fight. And I–a proud former union organizer–will be the mayor who will fight for All San Franciscans, not just the rich, the powerful, or the well connected.
We can win this fight with your support. But I need your support now, more than ever. In four weeks, ballots will be mailed out and the election will begin. We must raise another $20,000 to get our message out, and that starts with grassroots donors like you.
Please contribute what you can today.
We can build that San Francisco that works for everyone. Organized labor is standing with us. And with your support, we’ll share our message far and wide, and the people will be with us too, so that on November 5, we will win a great victory for San Francisco’s working families and make this city truly work for all of us once again.
Please contribute today.
Thanks so much for your support.
Let’s go!
Ahsha Safai
Candidate for Mayor of San Francisco
