John,

It’s been a crushing several days for Georgians. I’m heartbroken, but I’m also angry. Let me explain.

Just two weeks ago, I was joined on stage at the DNC by Americans who had lost loved ones in school shootings. Together, we shared our stories of loss from gun violence.

Then, last week, tragedy struck again. A 14-year-old with a high-powered firearm killed 4 students and educators at Apalachee High School in Winder, GA – right outside my district in a neighboring county.

And now, the GOP’s vice-presidential nominee JD Vance says school shootings are just “a fact of life” that we have to deal with. He even callously suggested “more security” was the solution.

John, this attitude from Republicans is exactly why we’ve struggled to make meaningful progress on ending gun violence. They throw up their hands and offer nothing but “thoughts and prayers”.

Meanwhile, they cash checks from the NRA and do all in their power to block our efforts at common sense gun reform that would keep our communities safe.

We can’t let Republicans continue to hold power when they’ve shown again and again they’ll do nothing to prevent these tragedies. Please support me in my efforts to lead the movement in Congress to end gun violence by chipping into my re-election campaign – I’m more committed than ever to building Democratic political power in Georgia and beyond.

DONATE NOW

Parents, teachers, and children are crying out for help. I refuse to accept that this is the best we can do. It’s time to change the status quo by enacting the same reforms that are proven to work.

In solidarity,

Lucy McBath
