Maryland is joining the IRS Direct File program!

"Changes to tax filing will improve Marylanders’ lives" - The Baltimore Sun

One of the Office of the Comptroller's core priorities is to modernize our agency and make our services more equitable and accessible to people around the state.

Earlier this year, we launched the Maryland Tax Connect portal for businesses. Now, we’re partnering with Direct File to make it easier for residents to file their tax returns for free next year, streamlining the process for 700,000 Marylanders. This is another big step forward for us!

I wrote an op-ed in the Baltimore Sun with Senator Chris Van Hollen and Congressman Steny Hoyer about this news and how it will positively impact our state, which you can read here.
