I am not one who is prone to hyperbole, but there are some blinking red lights demonstrating this is a very competitive race. The outside spending is already off the charts.
First, there was the AARP poll showing that our race is tightening and is now within the margin of error. A Fox News piece dropped at the same time with Republican strategists signaling outside groups to send and spend money to elect our opponent.
Then there's the fact that for the past few weeks, no media market has seen more political spending than Detroit, Michigan. In both my race and the presidential — campaigns and outside groups are pouring money into Michigan to reach as many voters as possible. To make this specific: at this moment, the other side has $17 million against me on TV, with TV spending in the presidential race in Michigan expected to clear at least $100 million.
Now, The Hill says that our Senate race is one of the top three to potentially flip into Republican hands this November. And recent polling has my race in a dead-heat, with Harris and Trump TIED in Michigan.
Any one of these in isolation does not mean the sky is falling. But taken together they should make crystal clear that now is the time to donate if you want to keep this Senate seat blue. And that good energy on the Democrats’ side does NOT mean we waltz to victory in November.
