Attention! Changes to Sex Education Consent in Texas
[link removed]
As of August 1, the Texas “opt-in” law requiring written parent consent for sex education has expired. This means that school districts now have the option to revert to an “opt-out” system. However, Texas law still mandates parent or guardian consent for any public school instruction on the prevention of child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and sex trafficking.
Given that healthy relationships and abuse prevention typically is part of sex education, many Texas schools will continue using the opt-in format this school year to ensure thorough communication with parents, guardians, and families.
For detailed guidance, please refer to the updated instructions from the Texas Education Agency [here]([link removed]).
