After a busy and productive August district work period, which you can learn more about below, Congress is back in session this week. There are several pressing issues we will have to deal with this fall, including funding the government. I joined KNSS before heading back to our nation’s capital to discuss this as well as other key issues that matter to Kansans.

Our conversation covered the border crisis, inflation and government spending, what the latest jobs report signals about the economy and the upcoming debate about renewing and extending provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. You can listen to our full conversation below. I’ll take these and other concerns with me to D.C. as I work to restore the American Dream for Kansans.

.Last week I shared some of my recent visits with Kansans throughout the District. Here are several more.

1. Cypress Imaging
At Cypress Imaging, I was impressed and inspired to learn about the advancements in imaging that make the process more comfortable and accessible for patients. Cypress Imaging also uses a mobile unit to provide more accessibility to rural patients and nursing home patients, preventing elderly patients from unnecessary exposure at the emergency room.

2. The Smart Factory @ Wichita
I was blown away by the incredible engineering advancements at The Smart Factory @ Wichita, which is quickly becoming a destination for helping grow U.S. manufacturing through innovation and collaboration. I also met with some Wichita State students who are able to get hands-on experience here.

3. REALTORS of South Central Kansas
Homeownership is a key part of the American Dream that inflation and rising costs have pushed out of reach for too many. I was glad to meet with the REALTORS of South Central Kansas to discuss ways to make homeownership more accessible. I spoke about how we must end runaway D.C. spending that fuels inflation and enact sound tax policy to benefit Americans.

4. MKC
I’m grateful to co-ops like MKC that work with our Kansas farmers who feed and fuel the world. During my visit there I shared the status of the Farm Bill, and we discussed what is needed to make sure Kansas farmers can continue providing food for our tables. We also discussed the need for open markets that allow Kansas farmers to sell their products around the globe.

.Did you know that the state motto of Kansas, “Ad Astra Per Aspera,” means “to the stars through difficulties?” The motto represents the difficulties Kansas faced when becoming a state. This was due to staunch, and sometimes violent, disagreements regarding slavery, which was referred to as “Bleeding Kansas.” On the Kansas seal, the state motto is pictured above 34 stars, symbolizing Kansas becoming the 34th state in our Union. Kansas was officially admitted to the United States on January 29, 1861.
