“My life had no meaning whatsoever ... Between [my daughter] and God, they gave me a gift that I don’t regret at any time.”
—Bonnie
Bonnie still remembers the day her granddaughter Rosabella was born. The experience was joyous, but it was also distressing—because Bonnie’s son-in-law was headed to prison. And Bonnie's daughter, unable to care for her newborn, asked Bonnie to be Rosabella's guardian.
Rosabella was 9 years old when her incarcerated father signed her up for Angel Tree® Christmas. She received a gift card and a note in her father’s name.
Then Bonnie received a call from an Angel Tree camp, inviting Rosabella to an upcoming camp week.
While at camp, Rosabella kept thinking about her family’s relationship with God.
“Grandma, they taught me that you have to go to church to help me thrive,” Bonnie recalls her granddaughter saying after returning from camp.
Bonnie had attended church on and off in the past, but she wasn’t comfortable with it. Now Rosabella wanted Bonnie to attend church regularly—and that first Sunday was a shaky one.
Men and women in prison are looking for hope. And nothing provides hope like the living Word of God. With as little as $5, you can help bring hope to prisoners today. Every dollar makes a difference.
“I just knew I was going to die, and I saw my kids’ faces flash in front of my eyes,” Sheaveal says. “When I lay down, I tell you, I lay down to die.” But when God woke her up the next morning, she knew it was only because of His grace and mercy that she had survived a drug overdose. God had kept her safe. Find out how Sheaveal overcame.
