Dear Friend,
What we’ve witnessed over the past few weeks has been historic and surreal. We’ve sacrificed – canceling graduations and weddings, holding Easter services in our living rooms, and postponing gatherings of our friends and loved ones - all in an effort to protect our families and communities. It has taken its toll.
Life as we knew it completely ground to a halt as Americans nationwide answered the call and did what was necessary to flatten the COVID-19 curve.
Our government, unlike China, has been open and transparent with the data. President Trump has answered the tough questions and been with us every step of the way. His actions from the start helped keep us safe and now armed with accurate information we know what is needed to combat the virus.
Keeping physical distance from one another, washing our hands frequently and staying home if we are feeling sick. The American people know how to take care of themselves without the government trying to forcibly do it for them. We have made great progress flattening the curve and subduing this invisible enemy. We now must move ahead to bring back the might of our economy while also remaining vigilant against this disease.
Workers, farmers, and businesses have idled long enough, we need a strong economic response to this health crisis. A response that puts the individual in the driver’s seat rather than the government and allows them to decide when they’re ready to resume life as we knew it. We don’t need bureaucrats in Washington who have never set foot in a farm or factory deciding when they feel it’s safe for Missouri to return to work.
Hard work, determination, and grit are central to the identity of the Show-Me State. I’m excited to see those virtues on full display as we emerge from this pandemic stronger than before.
Sincerely,
Jason Smith
