John, guess what? It’s International Literacy Day! And today we're shining a spotlight on one of our programs that is helping to make sure every child can discover the joy of reading.
Damian lives in a rural California town of just 1,800 people. Resources are limited, and kids in this community are at risk of starting kindergarten 18 months developmentally behind their non-rural peers.
Save the Children’s 'Early Steps to School Success' program helps bridge that gap.
Damian’s family enrolled him when he was just 1 month old, and ever since, he and his mother have attended group learning sessions to boost his skills and support his social-emotional development. Now, at 3 years, 8 months old, Damian’s language assessment score reflects the skills of a child a whole year older!
With support from caring people like you, we help kids like Damian build a strong foundation of learning, language and literacy to set them up for a lifetime of success.
In addition to early learning programs, we also help maintain well-stocked school libraries, free after-school programs and summertime support in communities like Damian’s to make sure all kids are empowered to learn and reach their full potential.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about all of the ways Save the Children is increasing access to learning in the United States. Your support can truly make a life-changing difference for kids everywhere.
