“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30

Friend,

As tragedy struck our state this past week, many Georgians are left feeling weary and burdened. Students, teachers, families, and communities are carrying many emotions - anger, grief, confusion, and fear.

I am thankful that even in the midst of these emotions, we have a God who walks alongside us.

He willingly takes our burdens so that we may find rest. It’s difficult to trust that He has a plan when something so heartbreaking happens, but He does. Now is the time to turn to Him, not away from Him.

He has each of our days mapped out and nothing surprises Him. God can turn even the darkest days to light. He can heal even the deepest wounds and redeem even the most tragic stories. Bringing beauty from ashes - He’s the only one who can.

I hope you will join me in continuing to pray for Apalachee High School and the Winder-Barrow community. We don’t understand why this happened, and we probably never will on this side of eternity, but we can trust the Lord’s sovereignty and rest in His promises.

He is faithful. He is good. And as Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith stated - love will prevail.
