If you turn on the news, you’ll likely see politicians and pundits from all sides hurling attacks my way.
This is nothing new, and frankly, I don’t care what partisan politicians and talking heads have to say about me. I’ll take the slings and arrows from both sides.
Do you know why?
I’m NOT in this Senate race to serve one person or one party. I’m in this Senate race to do what is RIGHT for Marylanders and Americans.
As you can imagine, this approach has made me a top target for Washington partisans in BOTH parties. They don’t want leaders like me in Washington because I am a DIRECT THREAT to the toxic political system they created for themselves at the expense of honest and decent people.
If doing what’s right for Maryland sometimes comes in conflict with party politics, so be it. I will continue to be the same strong independent leader for Maryland that I always have been.
This position shouldn’t be extreme, but it has nevertheless made myself and my campaign targets for attacks from both sides of the aisle, not to mention from my opponent in this race.
That’s why I'm asking you to join us in this important fight to fix the broken politics in America.
As I’ve said before, America is at a dangerous, critical crossroads. The attacks from partisan politicians in Washington DC on my campaign are a perfect example of everything WRONG with our country right now.
Politicians on both sides seem more interested in attacking each other than in actually doing anything for the people they represent.
I’m absolutely fed up. John, this is not just about the differences between the right and the left, this is about the difference between right and wrong, and this isn’t just the typical fight between Democrats and Republicans.
It’s more important than that. This is a fight for Maryland and America's future and that is a fight worth fighting.
I’m willing to stand up and fight for the things that matter but not for status-quo politics-as-usual, and not to perpetuate polarization and paralysis. In the Senate, I’m willing to work with anyone who wants to do the people’s business and fix the partisan mess in Washington.
So I'm asking for your support not to serve one party, but to fix the broken politics and to fight for all Marylanders.
When I launched my campaign for the U.S. Senate, I did so with a deep resolve to maintain the leadership style and principles that guided me during my eight years as governor.
Fifty years ago, my father, Maryland Congressman Larry Hogan Sr. made a tough decision. He became the first Republican to come out for the impeachment of President Nixon. He put aside party politics and his own personal considerations and stepped up to do the right thing for Maryland and the nation.
Today, Washington is completely broken because that kind of leadership and willingness to put country over party has become far too rare. But it’s not in my nature to sit back and watch the dysfunction continue without doing what I can to roll up my sleeves and get to work.
I’m under no illusion this will be an easy road. But I’m no stranger to uphill battles, and I know I can’t do it without your support.
I don't aspire to be a United States senator. I don’t need a title and I don’t need a job, but I’m more concerned than ever about the direction of the country and I have become more convinced that I can make a difference by taking the approach and style of leadership I had during my eight years as governor to Washington.
It’s no surprise this mindset has made me a target of the Washington partisans. Despite early polls showing a lead, I know I’m the underdog in this race. And that’s why your support TODAY is so crucial.
For eight years, we proved that the toxic politics that divide our nation didn’t need to divide our state, and we got results! Let’s get back to work again and send a message to Washington that will be heard loud and clear across the country!
