John,I’m sure because it’s the last day of the month you were expecting another fundraising email here. And I will ask you for a grassroots donation before this is over because we need all the help we can get to beat Karen Handel again and we’ve got to hit every fundraising goal, but first let me explain the real reason I wanted to reach out today.
I know what it’s like to have your normal way of life suddenly upended. I know what it’s like to suddenly lose a loved one. And so I can really empathize with the millions of Americans right now who have lost a family member, a friend, a co-worker, or a community member to COVID-19. They can’t gather together to grieve and hold a funeral. They’re not sure how to mourn in these extraordinary circumstances.
If you know my story, you know I went through something similar when I suddenly lost my son Jordan. To everyone out there going through this pain directly -- I feel for you, and I’m praying for you.
This is also a scary and uncertain time for our country. Sometimes it feels like we have a “leadership vacuum” coming from the top in Washington. It’s the same leadership vacuum I noticed when our legislators did nothing after Columbine, Sandy Hook, Las Vegas, Parkland, and every mass shooting in between.
But we cannot let this leadership vacuum get us discouraged. We have to do what we’ve done in the face of every other tragedy: come together and help one another. We are strong and we are resilient, and as a community, we will get through this crisis, together.
Personally, I know the human spirit is capable of some incredible things. We may be hurting right now, in the midst of this crisis, but we are going to come through it on the other side and we are going to be stronger. I am living proof of that. And I’m not special or unique, I’m just a person who’s faced more adversity than anyone should have to -- John.
So maybe this wasn’t your typical “end of month fundraising email,” but I felt compelled to share that message with you tonight.
If you can chip in to make sure I’m able to continue to work that matters in Washington and bring my unique perspective as a leader to the table, I’d be so happy to have your financial support in a contribution of any size. Here’s the best link:
