Costco products come in an absurdly frustrating amount of plastic packaging.

That's why we delivered more than 82,000 petitions urging Costco to cut back on wasteful plastic packaging.[1]

Since then, Costco has stated it would release a plan to reduce plastics by the end of this year. But we need more than a plan. We need action.[2]

Growing amounts of data suggest that plastics and microplastics pose significant threats to our health and our environment.[3]

Costco has recently committed to increasing its transparency about its plastic use and developing an action plan to reduce the amount of plastic it uses. That's great! And it's proof of the power of consumers. Now Costco has until the end of this year to come up with specifics on how to curb its plastic usage.[4]

This isn't the time to be complacent. We have to keep urging Costco to take real action and stay true to its word.

In December, Costco is supposed to release its five-year plastic action plan that will outline the steps the company will take to reduce plastic waste.[5]

We need to make sure Costco follows through on its promise and phases out harmful plastics now, before it's too late.

Because plastic doesn't degrade, every new piece of plastic that Costco uses could eventually break down into harmful microplastics, many of which could make their way into our food systems or our precious waterways.[6]

We need Costco to phase out single-use plastics, and we need the company to do it now.
