Ever since Roe v. Wade was overturned, the GOP has taken the opportunity to infringe on all bodily autonomy. Their newest attack? In-vitro fertilization, or IVF. The fertility treatment, which has helped parents across the country grow their families, is being attacked by the Republican party—which claims to be “pro-family.”

This year, through fetal personhood laws set in motion by the Dobbs decision, GOP-led states have begun limiting these fertility treatments, even though the lawmakers deny doing so. The GOP showed their true colors when Senate Republicans voted against a bill that would protect in-vitro fertilization. Now, Donald Trump is twisting himself in knots on a range of reproductive health issues, but one thing is clear: by appointing justices to the Supreme Court who overturned Roe, Donald Trump is the reason we are in this situation in the first place. If we have learned anything over the past eight years, it’s that if Trump’s mouth is moving, he’s lying.

Donald Trump and his Republican cronies won’t protect IVF. They will continue to restrict reproductive freedom and make sure women have no control over their bodies. We need a Democratic majority in Congress and Kamala Harris in the White House if we are going to ensure that the GOP stops attacking reproductive freedom, and that we can pass laws to protect it. In-vitro fertilization gives millions the opportunity to grow their families. Instead of slinging baseless attacks against the medical procedure, we should be protecting it for future generations of families. The so-called “pro-family” party is talking out of both sides of their mouth. They want you to believe they will protect these fertility treatments, but they want their right-wing supporters to believe they won’t. Families who count on IVF deserve better.

Since the fall of Roe, the war on bodily autonomy has only gotten worse. We have the chance to vote out the lawmakers who want to control our bodies in November.
