We have to rid the system of dark money

Sheldon Whitehouse Senator for Rhode Island

Team,

I talk a lot about how the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision unleashed a tsunami of dark money into our elections. In the 14 years since that awful decision, the amount of anonymous dark money ultra-wealthy donors have funneled into influencing elections and the judiciary has skyrocketed. Special interests have been able to drown out the voices of regular Americans.

In an election year when democracy itself is on the ballot, untraceable money is pouring into the political system.

Here’s the good news: I have a bill to restore accountability to political spending. My DISCLOSE Act would expose the special interests spending huge sums of money to influence our government and our courts.

We need to give the American people the facts about who is trying to sway their vote.

But I’m fighting against the wealthiest, most powerful special interests out there to get this done. And the GOP is trying to make it harder for people to vote and easier for billionaires to buy elections.

If we want to pass my DISCLOSE Act, end the scourge of dark money infiltrating our politics, and restore power to the people, we need to protect and expand our Senate majority. Can you chip in today to my re-election campaign so Democrats can get it done?

Thank you,

Sheldon Whitehouse
