"Social distance is a fantasy in a camp. We’re spraying surfaces,
wearing protective equipment and sharing accurate information about how
the virus is transmitted, but people live here in very close quarters.
Imagine collecting some of the people most susceptible to illness and
cramming them close together in some of the riskiest of living
conditions. The disease could spread like wildfire."

A camp in northwest Syria for families displaced by violent conflict.
Thousands of people live on this small patch of land.
That’s an update from Mercy Corps’ Country Director in
Syria, Kieren Barnes. Getting precise information on COVID-19 cases is
challenging, as access to testing has been extremely limited in the camps.
To protect as many lives as possible, we have no other choice but to
prepare for the worst right now.

In
this crisis and so many others around the world, your support is an
essential part of our work. Today you can make an urgent, tax-deductible
gift as part of our $50,000 Tripadvisor Foundation Matching Gift Challenge
— will you help us raise $50,000 before midnight, to match generous
support from Tripadvisor Foundation?

Thank you so much for being a part of the solution. Working together, we don’t have to
accept the worst case scenario. We can do better. We must.

If you’re able to give before midnight, we’ll
put your gift to use helping the most vulnerable people and communities
worldwide, including those facing the COVID-19 pandemic — during this
crisis and beyond.
