Corn sweat is real, and it's made extreme heat in the Midwest even more uncomfortable
— NPR, September 3, 2024

“When we have these very high moisture conditions, we don't cool down as much at nighttime, so there's an interaction that goes on between the crop and the atmosphere."

Okay, technically it’s called transpiration, but in the hot summer months corn releases more moisture than normal, increasing humidity in the midwest. Great for corn, not so much for Illinois’ farmers and laborers.

Illinois is the country’s second largest producer of corn, so we’ve definitely been feeling the humidity here in the 13th District. In 2022 Illinois cultivated over 11 MILLION acres of corn, and with our climate crisis turning up the heat in the summers, we’re in for a humid future if we don’t take action.

That’s why Nikki is hard at work to deliver a Farm Bill that truly works for everyone — a bill that gives farmers the support they need while also ensuring that we’re farming sustainably. She's ensuring that the voices of family farmers in Central and Southern Illinois resonate powerfully in Washington.

In Congress, Nikki's mission is clear: breathe new life into rural America, uphold the farm safety net, protect vital nutrition programs, and push for essential conservation investments. 👩‍🌾🌽 Her dedication to these causes isn't just talk — it’s action. Will you pitch in $3 right now to help us protect this seat and keep Nikki fighting for our farms and farmers?
