PROTECTING VETERANS’ BENEFITS

The Biden Administration recently notified Congress that the Department of Veteran Affairs’ (VA) failure to properly budget and account for enrollment growth and staffing costs in its budgetary process resulted in an unprecedented funding shortfall in veteran benefits for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2024. If Congress fails to act, veterans benefit funding could lapse and cause hardship to those who defended our nation. That’s unacceptable. Yesterday, I joined a number of my House colleagues to introduce the Veterans Benefits Continuity and Accountability Supplemental Appropriations Act to ensure veteran benefits remain uninterrupted and hold the Administration accountable for its egregious budgeting errors. I will continue to fight to ensure veterans receive the benefits they have earned.

As you may know, I worked together with Senator Alex Padilla in a bipartisan effort to transfer seven C-130 Hercules aircraft to CAL FIRE to fight wildfires across the state. Last week, the first fully operational C-130 put into action by CAL FIRE completed its first firefighting mission right here in Riverside County! We can already see how valuable these assets will prove to be in helping CAL FIRE protect lives and property in our region.

SERVING MY CONSTITUENTS

Chukwuemeka from Palm Desert asked my office for assistance after unnecessary delays prevented his wife and baby from entering the U.S. from Nigeria. My office was able to reach out to the U.S. Consulate in Lagos, Nigeria to resolve the issue and help reunite their family.

If you or someone you know in the 41st Congressional District is having an issue involving the State Department please contact my office at (951) 277-0042.
