Former Vice President Dick Cheney confirms he will vote for Kamala Harris
Former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney, the chief architect of America's monumentally catastrophic war in Iraq and a proud, decades-long practitioner of subverting democracy around the f*cking globe, confirmed on Friday that even he cannot bring himself to cast a ballot for the GOP nominee for president in November. That a man so fundamentally evil and irredeemable can look at the convicted felon and serial sex pest at the top of the Republican ticket and conclude he is unfit for office speaks deafening volumes and proves the old axiom that broken clocks — even those belonging to war criminals — are very occasionally and incomprehensibly right. Still, and we cannot stress this strongly enough, there will be no cookies for Dick.

If you find yourself wondering when, if ever, Donald Trump, a convicted felon, adjudicated rapist, serial fraudster, and professional grifter will EVER face actual accountability for a f*cking lifetime of abusive, misogynistic, racist, and downright criminal behavior, you are definitely not alone. There aren't enough eyeroll emojis in the universe to button this up. At least it's Saturday?

GOP Senate candidate caught polluting pristine local river with coal waste
Glenn Elliott for Senate: Bluestone Coke, a company owned by GOP Senate candidate Jim Justice’s family, was just held in civil contempt by a judge for polluting the nearby Five Mile Creek with coal sediment. If Jim Justice makes it into the Senate, ALL of America’s rivers and our clean air will be in serious danger. That’s why we need your help to elect the pro-abortion, pro-climate, and pro-union Glenn Elliott, who will protect our pristine wilderness from greedy polluters like Jim Justice. Will you chip in to expand our Senate majority and elect Glenn Elliott?
Florida goes full police state over abortion ballot initiative
In a development that wouldn't sound out of place in an episode of The Handmaid's Tale, Florida is sending frickin' police officers to the homes of people who signed a petition supporting an abortion rights ballot initiative. Gov. Ron DeSantis’s administration has begun investigating thousands of verified signatures that helped to put a state constitutional amendment protecting the right to abortion on the ballot in November. Should the initiative pass it would overturn the state's draconian six-week ban on abortions in the Sunshine State, so naturally, DeSantis' cronies in the Department of State are intimidating investigating residents who signed, claiming they “uncovered evidence of illegal conduct with fraudulent petitions.” Got it.

Court questions merit of Trump appeal of $5 million E. Jean Carroll judgment
Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn a Manhattan civil jury’s $5 million sexual abuse and defamation verdict were met with scepticism by a federal appeals court on Friday, with judges questioning whether his complaints about trial evidence held any merit. (Spoiler alert: they do not.) The MAGA cult leader's attorney, D. John Sauer, delivered a grievance-filled opening salvo, which was met with a swift rebuff. Trump walked into court with his normal posture and gait — hunched shoulders and subdued steps — but did exchange pleasantries with one of the court artists present to sketch him, because, well, vanity. A quick reminder that a jury found in May 2023 that Trump did indeed attack Carroll in a department store dressing room some 30 years ago. Their award was composed of $2 million for sexual abuse and $3 million for defamation, as Trump repeatedly smeared Carroll’s reputation after she came forward against him just over five years ago.

"Deeply disturbed": White House calls for inquiry into killing of American Ayşenur Eygi in occupied West Bank by Israeli troops
The White House said it is “deeply disturbed” by the death of an American woman who was shot in the head by Israeli troops during a protest against Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and called for Israel to investigate her killing, which has caused strong reactions across the international community. The US State Department confirmed the death of Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, 26, a volunteer peace activist with the anti-occupation International Solidarity Movement (ISM). The ISM, which organizes foreign volunteers in the Palestinian territories, said Israeli forces “intentionally shot and killed Eygi during the weekly protest on Friday morning, though it did not name her at the time. “The demonstration, which primarily involved men and children praying, was met with violence from the Israeli army stationed on a hill. The volunteer died shortly after being transported to a local hospital in Nablus,” the ISM said in a statement. Secretary of State Antony Blinken deplored the “tragic loss” and added, "when we have more info, we will share it, make it available and, as necessary, we'll act on it."
