John –

Last week, while sitting in the Oval Office, Donald Trump had the nerve to call the U.S. Postal Service “a joke.”

Then, he said he’d like to quadruple the price it costs to mail a package!

This would be bad enough in normal times. But the fact that he would say such things in the midst of a pandemic, when Americans are even more reliant on the Postal Service, is infuriating.

Like the Census, the Post Office is a concept spelled out in the U.S. Constitution. And now, as we are all staying home to stop the spread of the coronavirus, it is more important than ever.

The seniors, veterans and Americans living with disabilities who rely on the Postal Service to get critical medications deserve better than this. The rural communities and small businesses who count on the Postal Service deserve better than this.

And the more than 600,000 U.S. Postal Service employees – the men and women who are putting themselves at risk to make sure we all get what we need during this pandemic – most certainly deserve better than this.

We can’t count on the President to thank these essential workers. So will you join me in making sure they know how grateful we are for their hard work? I’ve left a note on my mailbox to make sure our postal workers know how much we value the tough work that they continue to do every day. Will you do the same this week?

Here’s my ask: take a picture of your thank you note and share it on social media with #ThanksUSPS. And if you tag me on Twitter (@TomCarperforDE), I will share the pictures so that we can show our postal workers how grateful we are.

The postal workers who come to our homes six days a week -- in rain, sleet, snow and pandemics -- deserve a thank you note. Let's let them know that we appreciate all they're doing and that we have their backs.

I'm going to keep fighting to get the Postal Service the funds that they need so that this agency -- an office as old as our country -- can continue serving Americans for the next 231 years and beyond!

Thanks for all you're doing to support each other,

Tom
