Plus, some other headlines you may have missed. Fighting For Faith, Family & Freedom Friday, September 6, 2024 To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary Bauer Down Again We got more evidence of the weakness of the Biden economy today. Job growth in August was below expectations, strongly suggesting that the economy is slowing down. And the trend of downward revisions to previous monthly job figures continues. July’s revision resulted in 25,000 fewer jobs than initially reported, and June’s figures were revised downward by 58,000. That’s a combined total of 83,000 fewer jobs than what we were told. This bad news increases the likelihood that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates next month. But there are reports that the cut could be larger than expected, indicating that the Federal Reserve is really worried about the state of the economy. Solutions Not “Something” We’re learning more about the teenage murderer who attacked a Georgia school Wednesday. Not surprisingly, his home life was a mess. Neighbors say he was regularly abused. His mother was a drug addict with a long rap sheet. Police were frequently called to the home, once to warn about serious threats against a middle school the shooter made online. Yet even after that warning, his father reportedly bought him a gun for Christmas. That’s why the father has been arrested, charged with manslaughter, second-degree murder, and multiple counts of child abuse. What you’re not hearing in the media is that the shooter was stopped by a good guy with a gun. A school resource officer prevented the rampage from being even worse. There is a bill in Congress that would provide $900 million to school districts specifically to hire and train more school resource officers as one solution for making our schools safer. But so-called “progressives” oppose it. Why? Because they don’t like the police. Many leftists want to defund the police because they claim policing began with the slave trade. And school resource officers are law enforcement officers. Leftists regularly mock our prayers at moments of suffering. “Your prayers don’t matter; do something,” they say. Their “something” is always taking away your Second Amendment rights. There is an easy “something” they could do, like funding more school resource officers, but they won’t. Trump Wins Former President Donald Trump scored two significant legal victories this week. Yesterday, Judge Tanya Chutkan scheduled pretrial procedures for Trump’s Washington, D.C., federal trial for November 7th. Today, Judge Juan Merchan delayed Trump’s sentencing hearing in his New York state trial until November 26th. Both dates are after Election Day. More importantly, the disturbing threat of a presidential candidate being jailed by his political opponents during the campaign has been taken off the table. Trump’s Plan Donald Trump delivered an address yesterday to the Economic Club of New York outlining his economic plan. He proposed some very creative, Trumpian ideas. Trump proposed a commission to “conduct a complete financial and performance audit” of the federal government. The commission would be led by Elon Musk, and its goal would be eliminating fraud and hundreds of billions of dollars a year in improper payments, as well as reforms to make the government as efficient as possible. He proposed lowering the corporate rate to 15%, but -- and it’s a big “but” -- only for companies that manufacture products in the United States. This is part of Trump’s commitment to making America a manufacturing powerhouse again. He understands that a great country cannot be dependent on service jobs, like selling coffee and fast food. You have to be able to build things. We’re finding out now just how hollow our industrial base is. (Here and here.) Trump also proposed creating a sovereign wealth fund for America. Many nations have them, and they use them to compete against American companies. Trump wants an American sovereign wealth fund to “invest in great national endeavors for the benefit of all the American people,” meaning truly needed infrastructure like new airports, advances in agricultural production, and highways. Virtually all of Trump’s proposals are designed to spur investment and make America more competitive, which raises all Americans up. Something To Consider Pastor Jack Hibbs of Calvary Chapel Chino Hills recently offered some advice for Christians to consider in this election. While saying that both parties “drive me nuts,” Pastor Hibbs offered a very clear way for believers to think about the elections. He said, “For the Christian, it’s super easy. If you pull back rhetoric and emotion, it’s a slam dunk.” Watch his entire message here. Walz Is Wrong Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz made an odd statement this week. Referring to the Hamas sympathizers in our streets and on our college campuses, Walz said, “I think those folks who are speaking out loudly in Michigan are speaking out for all the right reasons.” Really? While some demonstrators may merely disagree with Israeli foreign policy, what’s driving these demonstrations is a visceral hatred of Israel. Israel’s full-scale ground invasion of Gaza didn’t begin until October 27th. These disgusting demonstrations started BEFORE Israel went into Gaza. The posters of hostages were being torn down BEFORE Israel went after Hamas. There were cheers for the October 7th slaughter of Jews in the immediate aftermath, when there was not one Israeli in Gaza. They were shouting then, “End the occupation!” So, it’s clear they don’t mean Gaza. They mean the end of Jews in Israel. Hate crimes against Jews have skyrocketed since October 7th, and our college campuses are being overrun with radical Islamists. So no, governor, the demonstrators are not out there waving the flags of terrorists and chanting calls for genocide for “all the right reasons.” Other Headlines A federal appeals court ruled that Florida can enforce its law protecting children from mutilating and sterilizing medical procedures while lawsuits seeking to overturn the law continue. Oklahoma Superintendent of Schools Ryan Walters announced that he is taking steps to prevent school districts from punishing students for displays of patriotism. A federal judge in Texas blocked another Biden quasi-amnesty scheme. Coors, Ford, Jack Daniel’s, and Lowes have joined the growing number of companies ditching DEI and other woke agendas amid customer outrage and legal challenges.
