Dear John:
Recently, I had the privilege of joining the Oklee community as they renamed their Post Office in honor of Coya Knutson, the first woman to represent the state of Minnesota in Congress. Though her time in Congress came with its fair share of challenges, from both in Washington and back home, she was passionate about her beliefs and stuck to her guns to improve the lives of her fellow Minnesotans. It was an honor to have introduced and passed the legislation to commemorate someone who had such an impact on this community, the state, and the country.
I was grateful to stand with Ms. Knutson's family and her biographers on what would have been her 112th birthday, and I want to thank everyone who made the dedication possible. I especially want to thank Barb Knutson. Her husband, Coya's son, Terry, played such an important role in making today happen, and I was so sad to hear of his passing earlier this summer and that he could not be there with us on the day.
