A Month in Review: August 2024 Congressional Update

I hope you and your family are well.

This month, I was joined by VA Secretary Denis McDonough in El Paso for a tour of Fort Bliss and to discuss how House Democrats and the Biden-Harris administration have worked on behalf of our country's veterans. I also had the honor of participating in the ground breaking ceremony for the new VA Health Care Center. This new facility will provide primary & specialized care, mental health support, surgery, and more to over 50,000 veterans enrolled in the El Paso VA Health System. El Paso has four members of Congress (2 senators, 2 House reps), and I'm proud to have voted "yes" for this transformational investment along with Senator John Cornyn.

Additionally, this month-long recess was a welcome opportunity to visit with various stakeholders and organizations in our community for updates on my work in Congress and to celebrate wins. From a major airport grant to roundtables and town halls, this month was a success!

VA Secretary McDonough Visit

VA Health Care Center Ground Breaking

The Biden-Harris administration and House Democrats have taken on Big Pharma and lowered healthcare costs for our seniors across the country.

I hosted a roundtable with senior-serving organizations and agencies to discuss how I can continue supporting their priorities.

As the only Member of Congress from our Texas region to vote for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, I’m thrilled about the recently announced $10.6 million in federal funding for critical airport improvements at the El Paso International Airport. House Democrats set out to repair crumbling infrastructure and invest in our future, and the millions of dollars in federal funding we’ve seen allocated to our airport are a broader reflection of our commitment.

As our community grows and our airport continues to receive more passengers, these funds will go a long way towards improving efficiency and setting its infrastructure up for success in the years to come.

Joined by members of the New Mexico delegation, I have been leading talks with the Dutch government about returning precious artifacts to the Tigua tribe.   I met with Governor Silvas to discuss updates and other priorities.   

Additionally, I held a community meeting with members of the Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo to give updates on my work in Congress.

In celebration of Congressional Startup Day, I stopped by the STTE Foundation for update on their work and to hear directly from entrepreneurs in our community.

I’m proud to represent startups that help drive our nation’s economic growth and technological advances.
