This week in Texas-24...   Irving, TX - I hope you all had a great Labor Day! On Tuesday, I toured Harmony School of Innovation-Euless with Harmony's North Texas District Elementary Superintendent, Serena Jackson, Principal Rasim Damirov, and Crystal McAnalley. We discussed how their award-winning STEM-focused curriculum sets up students for success. It was great to visit with a few students too! Later that night, I was honored to attend and speak at the Texas Holocaust, Genocide, and Antisemitism Advisory Commission (THGAAC) reception to discuss how Texas is fighting back against antisemitism and supporting Jewish-Americans in our state. Wednesday, I met with Texas-24 residents Shelby Frank, Abi Whaby, Jake Ford, and Ms. Burleson from Grapevine Faith’s Lion Business Academy. Jake is a previous Congressional Art Competition Honorable Mention, and I was excited to chat with them about the young professionals program at their school. I enjoyed meeting with Kennedy Hill from the Tarrant Area Food Bank afterwards. We discussed food insecurity, federal priorities to ensure North Texans don’t go hungry, and her thoughts on the Farm Bill. Later, I was glad to meet with Sravan and Sangeeta Ankaraju from Divergence Academy at our district office to chat about how their programs are helping veterans acquire the technical skills needed to enter emerging tech fields. Wednesday night, I spoke with young professionals at the Texas Public Policy Foundation's Liberty Leadership Council to discuss how I'm working in Washington to advance our shared values through public policy. Thursday, I toured Trinity Park Conservancy to see a new 250-acre park being built in Dallas. This new project will provide an economic impact of $6 billion to North Texas! After, I joined North Texas restaurateurs at the Texas Restaurant Association's lunch where we discussed how the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024, which I supported, would help small business owners in North Texas and how tax policy is effecting their ability to keep their doors open. I headed back to my district office and met with North Texans from Community Healthcare of Texas to discuss fraud and abuse within the Medicare hospice benefit and its impact on patients and families. I've been working on the Ways and Means committee to root out hospice fraud to ensure our most vulnerable populations are properly taken care of. Afterwards, I met with the Construction Management Association of America to chat about construction and program management in North Texas and legislation that will help support these industries in the Lone Star State! This afternoon, I joined a roundtable discussion with the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association, which supports financial services companies and manufacturers, to review how tax policy is impacting the industry in North Texas. We also discussed key provisions that these businesses rely on for support in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which are set to expire next year. Texas-24 Work of the Week This week, I joined my Ways and Means colleagues in continuing to push back on the Biden-Harris administration’s disgraceful agreement putting American workers and businesses last by handing U.S. tax code to hostile foreign governments. Texas-24 Hometown Hero This week's Texas-24 Hometown Hero is Euless Police Chief Mike Brown who retired after 50-years in law enforcement! Thank you, Chief Brown, for your dedication to North Texans and congratulations on your well-deserved retirement!
