Dear Friend,
Last week, I toured the only oil refinery in Wisconsin.
You may remember it as Murphy Oil, but it is now operated by Cenovus. The Superior Refinery produces an outstanding 16 miles of asphalt daily, in addition to propane, gasoline, and other essential products. With a workforce of around 350, this refinery plays a crucial role in driving economic growth in the Twin Ports.
Facilities like these are vital to keeping our nation moving, building, and heating our homes. We must continue to produce affordable energy here at home.
Unfortunately, under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s leadership, energy costs have skyrocketed since January 2021. Electricity prices have soared over 31%, and gasoline prices are up 50.5%.
In their very first month in office, the Biden-Harris admin halted oil and gas leases on federal lands and canceled the Keystone XL Pipeline, which would have produced 830,000 barrels of oil per day. They also canceled millions of acres of oil leases and even tried to ban new exports of liquified natural gas.
Last month, I was able to visit the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska (NPR-A), the Native Village of Nuiqsut, and the Willow Project on Alaska’s North Slope to hear firsthand about the negative effects of these policies. You can learn more about this here.
Despite the House passing several pro-American energy bills aimed at reducing costs, Senate Democrats have continuously blocked these efforts. This was a key issue raised during my telephone town hall on Wednesday.
We also talked about my bill to establish Wisconsin's first national park. The Apostle Islands National Park and Preserve Act would elevate the Apostle Islands from a National Lakeshore to a National Park. Please click here for a detailed list of frequently asked questions.
Thank you to everyone who joined the telephone town hall. If you missed it, you can listen to the recording here.
I hope you enjoy starting your weekend off with the Tiffany Telegram. We'll be back next week with more updates!
Sincerely,
Tom Tiffany Member of Congress
I appreciate everyone who joined the telephone town hall discussion and participated in the live poll questions.
Help is available: 988 Lifeline
With September being National Suicide Prevention Month, I want to make sure everyone knows that they are not alone. In recent years, Congress had made it easier for those struggling with mental health and addiction to have support at their fingertips. In 2022, we established the 988 Lifeline – an easy-to-remember National Suicide Hotline that is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Those struggling with mental illness can call or text 988 to talk with a trained crisis counselor at any time. You can also click here to chat with someone online. Please help me spread the word to your friends and family that help is available.
Corruption: Made in China
As you might know, a major Communist Chinese influence-peddling scheme was exposed this week when Linda Sun, a high-profile aide to New York Governor Kathy Hochul and former Governor Andrew Cuomo, was charged with accepting cash, a $2 million condo in Hawaii, a 2024 Ferrari, and a buffet of lavish luxury kickbacks from her Chinese paymasters in return for doing their bidding in the Big Apple. These revelations come more than a year after I introduced legislation directing the closure of the Chinese Consulate in New York City – the same spy den Ms. Sun’s Chinese Communist Party handlers allegedly operated out of. Sadly, this didn’t have to happen. Telegram readers may recall that barely a year after taking office, the Biden-Harris administration shut down a Trump-era national security initiative aimed at sniffing out Chinese Communist Party espionage right here in the United States. A few short years ago, as part of that effort, President Trump booted China’s “diplomatic” mission out of Houston, Texas in response to the intimidation of U.S. citizens by Chinese functionaries. It’s no secret that China’s efforts to compromise influential American officials and their family members continue to escalate, getting more brazen with each new case. That’s why it’s so disappointing that President Biden and Vice President Harris have continued to kowtow to Beijing. And while they may not be committed to treating the Chinese threat to America’s national security seriously, I am.
The Democrat Party of Censorship
Confirming what Republicans have been saying for years, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (OH-04) admitting that Facebook was pressured by the Biden-Harris administration to censor COVID-19 content on their platform that just over 220 million Americans use. While it is disappointing that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are willing to back such a blatant attack on free speech, it’s not shocking. We have seen this before. The Democrats have been lying to us for years through social media. After claiming Russian collusion in the 2020 election, burying the truth about Hunter Bidens laptop, and silencing those who pushed back on government overreach during COVID-19, how can Americans trust a word that the Biden-Harris administration tells them? The short answer is that they can’t. I thank Mark Zuckerberg for working with Congress to expose this and for acknowledging that their decision to comply with the Democrats request to censor American voices was wrong. However, we must see if he keeps his word and ensures this doesn’t happen again. Without the freedom of speech and expression, we lose one of the core values that our great nation was built on. I hope that Meta continues to follow the new generation of tech innovators who have proven themselves to be honest arbitrators, like Elon Musk.

District Update
Chief Moore visits Wisconsin
On Wednesday, I was able to welcome the Chief of the U.S. Forest Service, Randy Moore, to our district for a field visit to the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. He committed to coming out as a follow-up to the Field Hearing we had in May, and he stayed true to his word. Wisconsin is a leader in forest management, and the Chequamegon-Nicolet is one of the top timber-producing forests in the National Forest System – a success story that should be replicated in some our less productive, less healthy federal forests. As part of the tour, we stopped at multiple locations, checking out everything from new bridge construction and timber sale sites to recreation access roads. Along our tour, we were able to bring Chief Moore to see some of the same road closures we highlighted back in May. It was extremely helpful to take him out to see these sites firsthand and to discuss issues and potential solutions while out in the field. There is no better way to solve some the challenges we face out in Washington, D.C. than to get outside the Beltway and view them in person.
I am grateful to Chief Moore and his staff for putting together this great field tour.
