When my parents came to this country from a small town in Mexico, they didn’t come with much, but they came in search of the American Dream. They raised me to believe that with hard work, perseverance, and care for others, anything was possible. That belief led me to become the first in my family to graduate from college and later, become a pediatrician in Adams County.

But as a doctor, I saw families struggling with the rising costs of healthcare and prescription drugs, and I knew I needed to do more. The American Dream my parents worked so hard for was slipping away for too many.

So, I took that fight to the state legislature, where I forced Big Pharma to lower prescription prices and helped pass a first-in-the-nation cap on the price of insulin. Now, in Congress, I’m pushing to allow Medicare to negotiate lower prices and increase hospital price transparency.
