Dear John,
I hope you had a great week and a restful Labor Day Weekend. And to all the parents and guardians in Minnesota, I hope back to school season is going smoothly!
Well, it’s been great to be back in Minnesota, but I’m heading back to Washington next week for votes. As I look back on the past few weeks, I’m proud of the work we’ve done and connections we’ve made – it’s been a busy summer in Minnesota! This past month I got the chance to celebrate federal funding wins for a new local law enforcement training facility in Jordan, welcome the Secretary of Agriculture to Inver Grove Heights to discuss new renewable fuels options, and meet with so many other local leaders.
My extended time in Minnesota has reaffirmed my priorities for the next session of Congress. I was asked so often if we will get a Farm Bill done, and the answer is absolutely yes... eventually. So often, both parties retreat to their ideological corners and forget that we’ve all got the same goals. I am confident all my colleagues on the Agriculture Committee want to support our farmers and producers, and when I get back to DC, I’ll be encouraging every Member to find a compromise so we can get a good bipartisan Farm Bill across the finish line.
I also want to take a moment to acknowledge the horrible news of the school shooting in Georgia this week. It’s devastating and heartbreaking. As a mother and grandmother, I’m standing with parents and loved ones across the country who are sick of worrying about their child’s safety at school. We do not have to live like this.
When we return to Washington, I will continue working to get commonsense gun safety legislation passed. To me, this is about freedom. The freedom to send our kids to school and know they’ll be safe. The freedom to go to your place of worship, or the grocery store or the movies without fearing for your life. I will work with anyone who is ready to make progress on this issue, and I’ll do whatever I can to keep Minnesotans safe.
Here’s what else I was up to this week:
Lowering costs for Minnesotans
On Thursday I met with Minneapolis Federal Reserve President Neel Kashkari in my Eagan office to discuss how we can keep working to strengthen Minnesota’s economy. I'll do everything I can in Congress to make life affordable again for working families.
Improving public safety
Great to be in Eagan this week with Police Chief Roger New and Apple Valley Police Sergeant Nic Wolf to get a tour of their shared gun range and training facility & discuss how we can work together to ensure law enforcement have the resources to do their jobs effectively.
Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:
This past week we celebrated our grandson Wyatt’s first birthday! So much fun!
Next week I will be back in DC advocating for Minnesotans and working across the aisle to get things done.
Until next time,
Angie Craig
Member of Congress
