The election in November comes at a critical time in how we come together to deal with the climate crisis - both nationally and in the State of Washington. Every campaign contribution, hour of volunteer time and ballot cast can make a difference in the outcome.

Bill McKibben and Third Act
The numbers late last month hinted that Harris might struggle to hold onto Biden’s lead with older voters, but you wouldn’t have believed that from our showing last night. Your enthusiasm is helping rewrite the narrative of this campaign and I’m more hopeful than ever that we elders can galvanize our peers. So, let’s share the recording of last night’s event far and wide.
We are going to prove together that older Americans are eager for the future that Kamala Harris represents. When Akaya Windwood shared her story of integrating her public school in the 1960s, it reminded us of how far we’ve come in our lifetimes. But as we face the sneering and divisive figure of Donald Trump, we know how far we still have to go—and how much we could backslide as a nation.
Preventing that means working hard these next weeks, and having lots and lots of conversations with friends and neighbors. Third Act will give you the resources to make those conversations easier: snippets from last night, videos we’re busily producing, analysis, and statistics. But the secret ingredient will be your connections, your relationships, your courage––and above all else––your time and sweat.
Thousands of you already signed up for volunteer shifts and events over the next 90 days. You also helped us surpass our fundraising goal for GrayPAC, Third Act’s newly launched political action committee. All in, we’re closing in on a quarter of a million dollars, with funds from last night being split with the Harris campaign. You can continue to contribute here. Every dollar we raise will help us secure and advance climate protections and justice in our communities.
On the call, Robin Wall Kimmerer asked, “What does it mean to become a good ancestor?” And then answered, “part of it is to lift up new leaders.” We intend to do just that.
Let’s get to work,
Bill McKibben

NO on I-2066. I-2109, I-2117, I-2124
These four initiatives are the worst abuse of the democratic process we have ever seen and deserve to be soundly defeated.

Many
of us are actively working to fight the repeal of the Climate Commitment Act,
(No on I-2117) and 350 WA has endorsed a No vote on the other three millionaire-funded measures.
I-2066 repeals the recent legislation to phase out gas in buildings. I-2109 repeals the capital gains tax for over-$250,000 incomes and I-2124 repeals the state long-term care insurance program. These are serious attacks
on progressive policy that support resilient communities in the face of climate
change.
We
would like to focus on organizing people to talk about voting no on all of the attempts by a right-wing multi-millionaire to repeal Washington's progressive legislative achievements. Check out more about the CCA repeal from our
friends at Front & Centered link and about the other initiatives on the Defend Washington website.
There are events across the state and more are being added every day, so check out the map below to Find Local Actions. We also excited to announce the Defeat All Four Workshop which 350 WA and 350 Seattle will be running to help everyone learn more about all four of the initiatives on our November ballot and some easy steps you can take to help make sure the people around you vote NO on all four. If you are looking for some other actions, the No on 2117 Campaign would also love support with Volunteer Recruitment Phone Banking. Finally, a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who responded to out last email with ways they are getting involved across the state! We will be Sharing Their Stories going forward, so please feel free to keep letting us know what you are up to in your neck of the woods to defeat 2117.
Find Local Actions
Lots of opportunities to get involved are happening across the state, so make sure you check out this map of events and sign up for one near you! Events can include tabling at a farmers market or community event, canvassing door to door, postcard parties, and more!
Defeat All Four Workshop
Join us September 17th from 6-7pm to learn more about all four of the harmful initiatives that will be on our ballots in November. We will give an overview of each initiative, what they would do, and why 350 WA is opposing all four. We will also help YOU craft a plan to reach out to your friends/family/network to spread the word about these initiatives and help make sure they are all defeated! Sign up here!
Volunteer Recruitment Phone Banking
The No on 2117 Campaign is seeking volunteers to help them to recruit even more volunteers! Events happen virtually every Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 6-8. Sign up here!

The Union of Concerned Scientists invites you to a virtual Climate Week event featuring scientists, activists, and frontline leaders engaged with the Summer of Heat on Wall Street campaign, which is pressuring Big Banks to stop financing fossil fuel expansion, respect human rights, and invest in a clean energy future.
Join this important movement with insight and actions we all can take!
Scientists & Activists vs Fossil Fuel Finance
Date: Wednesday, September 25
Time: 1:00–2:00 p.m. ET
Register for the virtual discussion today.
In June more than 750 scientists wrote to the executives of Citi highlighting the urgency of the climate crisis and calling on the bank to stop financing fossil fuel expansion, respect human rights and Indigenous sovereignty, and invest in a clean energy future. According to the 2024 Banking on Climate Chaos report, Citi is the second largest financier of fossil fuels and the largest financier of fossil fuel expansion since the Paris climate agreement.
Since then, activists with the Summer of Heat on Wall Street campaign have organized peaceful actions to pressure Citi to take the climate crisis seriously. Citi and the NYPD have responded with aggressive repression tactics and brushed aside the evidence provided by scientists and frontline community leaders about the impacts of their actions.
After this virtual event you will leave with action items to participate in this powerful and growing movement for climate justice!
Speakers:
- Rose Z. Abramoff, PhD, Wintergreen Earth Science
- Roishetta Sibley Ozane, Founder and CEO, The Vessel Project of Louisiana
- Sandra Steingraber, PhD, Senior Scientist, Science and Environmental Health Network; Co-founder, Concerned Health Professionals of New York
Register today and we look forward to seeing you on September 25!
Sincerely,
Hannah Poor
