We hope you had a great week and a wonderful holiday weekend. Labor Day is an important opportunity to celebrate the workers who make us who we are as a nation. This Monday, we joined in recognizing all who have and continue to stand for fairness and equal opportunity in the workplace as we continue our work in Congress to defend and expand workers’ rights.

During the week, we had a wonderful time celebrating progress across New Jersey thanks to funding Congressman Kim secured. As always, we hope you find these updates and resources helpful.

THIS TUESDAY! 2024 Congressional App Challenge Kick-Off

The 2024 Congressional App Challenge is here! Please RSVP if you are going to join us for our kickoff celebration coming up next week on September 10th at 7PM at Rider University, Science Building Lecture Hall 102 (Parking available at 2083 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648). Middle school and high school students looking to compete and their families are welcome to learn more about the competition requirements and deadlines. Plus, it is a great opportunity to meet fellow STEM students and talk about the next big ideas in tech and computer science.

Looking After New Jersey’s Salt Marshes

This week, Congressman Kim took to the skies for a bird’s eye view of The Nature Conservancy's work restoring salt marshes along our Shore. Just last year, the Congressman helped them secure $1.19 million in grant funding to accelerate marsh restoration throughout New Jersey in response to rising sea levels.

Taking care of New Jersey’s salt marshes is an essential part of protecting New Jerseyans’ lives, businesses, and communities from the dangers of climate change, including through the marshes’ help buffering storm waves and filtering pollutants. We are proud to help connect collaborative efforts like this across our state to federal funding so we can tackle even our biggest climate challenges together and look after our communities.

Congressman Kim’s Project Funding Supports 100+ Veterans Access Care

Yesterday, Congressman Kim joined Brick Township Mayor Lisa Crate to celebrate the impact of Community Project Funding the Congressman secured for O.C.E.A.N., Inc. to provide veterans transportation to medical appointments. The $55,000 in funding has surpassed its goals and is now helping give 123 veterans rides to their medical appointments at the VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Brick, New Jersey.

Congressman Kim was also able to meet a local veteran who uses the service to access his care!

We are working to break down any barrier veterans face in trying to get the care they need. Transportation to appointments at the VA is an issue we’ve heard about from a lot of people and we are proud to see this project funding helping so many veterans in Ocean County. We are working hard to build off this program’s assistance, the new VA clinic coming to Toms River, and to deliver more direct help for our local veterans’ unique needs!

Closing out the Summer Strong

The end of a month of course means a constituent services wrap-up! We are proud to have returned $302,188 and closed 319 cases for our local community this August. Summer may be almost over, but the service continues! Reach out if you need assistance with a federal agency.

UPCOMING WEBINAR: Get to Know the Community Development Block Grant Program in Burlington and Monmouth Counties

On September 12th at 11 AM, our office will be hosting a webinar covering the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program that helps expand housing and promote economic development. The conversation will be geared toward access in Burlington and Monmouth Counties since CDBG grants are currently not available in Mercer County. Topics to be discussed include:

The application process in Burlington and Monmouth County
Who is eligible to apply
What types of projects are funded
How our office can assist
