More than a year ago I proudly accepted the position of Deputy Commissioner of Veterans Healthcare at the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA). I oversee eight Veterans Homes, the Adult Day Center and the Veteran Suicide Prevention initiative. My responsibilities include partnering with the Healthcare Central Office Executive Leadership Team to engage stakeholders, establish strategic plans and deliver operational excellence objectives that achieve the highest quality and safest care for Residents.
Over the past year I have learned much about the Agency and just how important our team members are to our mission achievement.
One definition of “mission” is a time-oriented segment that has a defined end. When the mission ends, we can reflect upon events and take pride in achievements. However, our mission-driven work at MDVA Healthcare continues 24/7! This continuous mission work sometimes makes finding the time to reflect and celebrate accomplishments even more crucial. Each day I see amazing moments of recognition and celebration in the hallways of our Homes – whether it's a brief high five, a heartfelt thank you or a more formal acknowledgment of achievement. Our entire team comes together to drive forward our mission of providing the best care for our Residents and have meaningful connections to their families and our communities.
I'm grateful to those who’ve chosen to invest their careers in MDVA’s mission. Our employees take pride in what they achieve individually and together.
Families whose loved ones live in our Homes share so many complimentary phone calls, emails and letters with me. Our teams deserve the credit – not just on a periodic basis, but every day. I hope MDVA employees who read this take a moment to reflect on and take pride in their work. If you’re reading this and considering a career at MDVA, please imagine the many lives you might personally touch and the significant, positive difference you will make at the MDVA.
