a new School Food Infrastructure Fund.

Welcome to our September !
For nearly a decade, the Coalition for Healthy School Food has advocated for a National School Food Program. So much has happened in 2024:
* April 1 - National School Food Program funding committed
* June 20 - the National School Food Policy released
* September 4 - Newfoundland and Labrador signs first agreement with the federal government for National School Food Program funds
* September 6 - Minister MacAulay announces launch of new School Food Infrastructure Fund and renewed Local Food Infrastructure Fund ([link removed]) to improve food security in Canada.
We thank the movement for school food, our thousands of supporters, 331 members and 144 endorsers for making this possible and for your unwavering commitment to a universal school food program for all Canadian children and youth.

On September 4th, the government of Newfoundland made history as the first provincial government to sign a National School Food Program agreement ([link removed]) with the federal government, receiving $9.1-million over the next three years to fund healthy meals for children and youth this coming school year 2024-2025.
The National School Food Policy ([link removed]) , released in June 2024, provides an overarching vision, principles and objectives that will guide the development of the program in a way that aligns with the Coalition’s 8 Guiding Principles ([link removed]) .
With food affordability a major concern for Canadians, we encourage the other provinces and territories to sign agreements as quickly as possible to support children and youth, families, and school food programs this school year.

** National School Food Program Implementation Update
------------------------------------------------------------
In August 2024, the Coalition for Healthy School Food submitted its Written Submission for the Pre-Budget Consultations in Advance of the 2025 Budget. We used this opportunity to recommend that the Government of Canada:
* Fast-track negotiations and signing agreements with the provinces, territories, and Indigenous leaders based on the National School Food Policy so that Budget 2024’s allocation of $79 million as the first-year investment of the National School Food Program can support students in the 2024-25 fiscal and school year.
* Follow up on the government’s commitment in Budget 2024 to spend $201 million in 2025-26, $218 million in 2026-27, $241 million in 2027-28 and $261 million in 2028-29.
* Continue to hold discussions with Indigenous leaders to negotiate agreements for the creation and/or enhancement of independent distinctions-based First Nation, MĂ©tis, and Inuit school meal programs, with long-term and sustainable funding.

** The Coalition applauds the launch of the School Food Program in Nova Scotia ([link removed])

On August 24, 2024, the Nova Scotia Government announced the launch of the School Lunch Program.
This program not only ensures that schools can provide nutritious food to children and youth, but this is also an opportunity to teach students about food, engage in positive experiences around food and cultivate healthy habits. This also builds social ties through new opportunities for students to eat together.
The Coalition for Healthy School Food welcomes this new program and we hope that other provinces and territories will be inspired by it and create their own school food programs.

** The open letter of the Chantier PASUQ ([link removed]) :

Coalition supports the call
On August 26, the members of the Chantier PASUQ, which includes the Collectif Quebecois of the Coalition for Healthy School Food, wrote an open letter to the Quebec Government.
In this letter, the Chantier PASUQ are calling on the Quebec Government to come to an agreement with the federal government and invest in school food in Quebec.
This follows the announcement on Apr 1, 2024 where the federal government announced the launch of a National School Food Program where they will invest 1 billion over five years.
This summer, the Government of Canada began discussions with provinces and territories. They hope to come to an agreement and start to allocate funds as soon as possible.
The Coalition for Healthy School Food supports the Chantier PASUQ’s call and we hope that both governments reach an agreement as soon as possible.

Depuis près de dix ans, la Coalition pour saine alimentation scolaire plaide en faveur d'un programme national d'alimentation scolaire. Beaucoup de choses se sont passées en 2024 :
* 1er avril - le financement du programme national d'alimentation scolaire engagé.
* Le 20 juin - publication de la Politique nationale sur l'alimentation Ă l'Ă©cole
* Le 4 septembre - Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador signe le premier accord avec le gouvernement fédéral pour les fonds du Programme national d'alimentation scolaire.
* Le 6 septembre - Le ministre MacAulay annonce le lancement du nouveau Fonds pour l’infrastructure alimentaire scolaire et le renouvellement du Fonds des infrastructures alimentaires locales ([link removed]) afin d’améliorer la sécurité alimentaire au Canada.
Nous remercions le mouvement pour l'alimentation scolaire, nos milliers de sympathisants, nos 331 membres et nos 144 sympathisants d'avoir rendu cela possible et de votre engagement envers un programme d'alimentation scolaire universel pour tous les enfants et les jeunes du Canada.

Le 4 septembre, le gouvernement de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador est entré dans l'histoire en devenant le premier gouvernement provincial à signer une entente avec le gouvernement fédéral, ([link removed]) dans le cadre du Programme national d'alimentation scolaire. La province recevra 9,1 millions de dollars au cours des trois prochaines années pour financer des repas scolaires sains pour les enfants et les jeunes au cours de l'année scolaire 2024-2025.
La Politique nationale d'alimentation scolaire ([link removed]) , publiée en juin 2024, fournit une vision globale, des principes et des objectifs qui guideront le développement du programme d'une manière qui s'aligne sur les 8 principes directeurs de la Coalition ([link removed]) .
Le coût des aliments étant une préoccupation majeure pour les Canadiens, nous encourageons les autres provinces et territoires à signer des accords le plus rapidement possible pour soutenir les enfants et les jeunes, les familles et les programmes d'alimentation scolaire au cours de cette année scolaire.

** Mise Ă jour du programme national d'alimentation scolaire

En août 2024, la Coalition pour une saine alimentation scolaire a présenté son mémoire dans le cadre des consultations prébudgétaires en vue du budget 2025. Nous avons profité de cette occasion pour recommander au gouvernement du Canada de :
* Accélérer les négociations et la signature d'accords avec les provinces, les territoires et les dirigeants autochtones sur la base de la Politique nationale d'alimentation scolaire afin que l'allocation de 79 millions de dollars du budget 2024 comme investissement de première année du Programme national d'alimentation scolaire puisse soutenir les élèves au cours de l'exercice et de l'année scolaire 2024-25.
* Faire le suivi de l'engagement fait par le gouvernement dans le budget 2024 de dépenser 201 millions de dollars en 2025-26, 218 millions de dollars en 2026-27, 241 millions de dollars en 2027-28 et 261 millions de dollars en 2028-29.
* Poursuivre les discussions avec les dirigeants autochtones afin de négocier des accords pour la création et/ou l'amélioration de programmes d’alimentation scolaire indépendants fondés sur des distinctions pour les Premières nations, les Métis et les Inuits, avec un financement durable et à long terme.

** La Coalition salue le lancement du programme d'alimentation scolaire en Nouvelle-Écosse ([link removed])

Le 24 août 2024, le gouvernement de la Nouvelle-Écosse a annoncé le lancement du programme de repas scolaires. Ce programme permet non seulement aux écoles de fournir des aliments nutritifs aux enfants et aux jeunes, mais c'est aussi l'occasion d'enseigner aux élèves ce qu'est l'alimentation, de leur faire vivre des expériences positives autour de l'alimentation et de cultiver des habitudes saines. Il permet également de tisser des liens sociaux en offrant aux élèves de nouvelles occasions de manger ensemble.
La Coalition pour une saine alimentation scolaire salue ce nouveau programme et nous espérons que d'autres provinces et territoires s'en inspireront et créeront leurs propres programmes d'alimentation scolaire.

Le 26 août dernier, les membres du Chantier PASUQ, dont fait partie le Collectif québécois de la Coalition pour une saine alimentation scolaire, ont rédigé une lettre ouverte au gouvernement du Québec.
Dans cette lettre, Chantier PASUQ demande au gouvernement du Québec de conclure une entente avec le gouvernement fédéral et d'investir dans l'alimentation scolaire au Québec. Cette lettre fait suite à l' annonce du gouvernement fédéral, le 1er avril 2024 , de lancer un programme national d'alimentation scolaire, en investissant 1 milliard de dollars sur cinq ans.
Cet été, le gouvernement du Canada a entamé des discussions avec les provinces et les territoires dans l'espoir de parvenir à des accords et de commencer à allouer des fonds dès que possible.
La Coalition pour une saine alimentation scolaire soutient l'appel du Chantier PASUQ et nous espérons que les deux parties parviendront à un accord le plus rapidement possible.

Depuis près de dix ans, la Coalition pour saine alimentation scolaire plaide en faveur d'un programme national d'alimentation scolaire. Beaucoup de choses se sont passées en 2024 :
* 1er avril - le financement du programme national d'alimentation scolaire engagé.
* Le 20 juin - publication de la Politique nationale sur l'alimentation Ă l'Ă©cole
* Le 4 septembre - Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador signe le premier accord avec le gouvernement fédéral pour les fonds du Programme national d'alimentation scolaire.
* Le 6 septembre - Le ministre MacAulay annonce le lancement du nouveau Fonds pour l’infrastructure alimentaire scolaire et le renouvellement du Fonds des infrastructures alimentaires locales ([link removed]) afin d’améliorer la sécurité alimentaire au Canada.
Nous remercions le mouvement pour l'alimentation scolaire, nos milliers de sympathisants, nos 331 membres et nos 144 sympathisants d'avoir rendu cela possible et de votre engagement envers un programme d'alimentation scolaire universel pour tous les enfants et les jeunes du Canada.

Le 4 septembre, le gouvernement de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador est entré dans l'histoire en devenant le premier gouvernement provincial à signer une entente avec le gouvernement fédéral, ([link removed]) dans le cadre du Programme national d'alimentation scolaire. La province recevra 9,1 millions de dollars au cours des trois prochaines années pour financer des repas scolaires sains pour les enfants et les jeunes au cours de l'année scolaire 2024-2025.
La Politique nationale d'alimentation scolaire ([link removed]) , publiée en juin 2024, fournit une vision globale, des principes et des objectifs qui guideront le développement du programme d'une manière qui s'aligne sur les 8 principes directeurs de la Coalition ([link removed]) .
Le coût des aliments étant une préoccupation majeure pour les Canadiens, nous encourageons les autres provinces et territoires à signer des accords le plus rapidement possible pour soutenir les enfants et les jeunes, les familles et les programmes d'alimentation scolaire au cours de cette année scolaire.

** La rentrée scolaire:

** Mise Ă jour du programme national d'alimentation scolaire

En août 2024, la Coalition pour une saine alimentation scolaire a présenté son mémoire dans le cadre des consultations prébudgétaires en vue du budget 2025. Nous avons profité de cette occasion pour recommander au gouvernement du Canada de :
* Accélérer les négociations et la signature d'accords avec les provinces, les territoires et les dirigeants autochtones sur la base de la Politique nationale d'alimentation scolaire afin que l'allocation de 79 millions de dollars du budget 2024 comme investissement de première année du Programme national d'alimentation scolaire puisse soutenir les élèves au cours de l'exercice et de l'année scolaire 2024-25.
* Faire le suivi de l'engagement fait par le gouvernement dans le budget 2024 de dépenser 201 millions de dollars en 2025-26, 218 millions de dollars en 2026-27, 241 millions de dollars en 2027-28 et 261 millions de dollars en 2028-29.
* Poursuivre les discussions avec les dirigeants autochtones afin de négocier des accords pour la création et/ou l'amélioration de programmes d’alimentation scolaire indépendants fondés sur des distinctions pour les Premières nations, les Métis et les Inuits, avec un financement durable et à long terme.

** La Coalition salue le lancement du programme d'alimentation scolaire en Nouvelle-Écosse ([link removed])

Le 24 août 2024, le gouvernement de la Nouvelle-Écosse a annoncé le lancement du programme de repas scolaires. Ce programme permet non seulement aux écoles de fournir des aliments nutritifs aux enfants et aux jeunes, mais c'est aussi l'occasion d'enseigner aux élèves ce qu'est l'alimentation, de leur faire vivre des expériences positives autour de l'alimentation et de cultiver des habitudes saines. Il permet également de tisser des liens sociaux en offrant aux élèves de nouvelles occasions de manger ensemble.
La Coalition pour une saine alimentation scolaire salue ce nouveau programme et nous espérons que d'autres provinces et territoires s'en inspireront et créeront leurs propres programmes d'alimentation scolaire.

Le 26 août dernier, les membres du Chantier PASUQ, dont fait partie le Collectif québécois de la Coalition pour une saine alimentation scolaire, ont rédigé une lettre ouverte au gouvernement du Québec.
Dans cette lettre, Chantier PASUQ demande au gouvernement du Québec de conclure une entente avec le gouvernement fédéral et d'investir dans l'alimentation scolaire au Québec. Cette lettre fait suite à l' annonce du gouvernement fédéral, le 1er avril 2024 , de lancer un programme national d'alimentation scolaire, en investissant 1 milliard de dollars sur cinq ans.
Cet été, le gouvernement du Canada a entamé des discussions avec les provinces et les territoires dans l'espoir de parvenir à des accords et de commencer à allouer des fonds dès que possible.
La Coalition pour une saine alimentation scolaire soutient l'appel du Chantier PASUQ et nous espérons que les deux parties parviendront à un accord le plus rapidement possible.
