Democrats signal voting rights bills will top the agenda if Harris wins — The Washington Post

The Freedom to Vote Act could be just months away from passing, team: Kamala Harris has long embraced the anti-gerrymandering, pro-voter proposal. In last month’s convention, she reiterated that support — and other Democratic leaders said they’ll move quickly to pass the bill.

This major proposal would be historic for our movement — but we need to push this forward with the full support of our community. That’s why we’re reaching out to ask:

The Freedom to Vote Act is an incredible tool to put power in the hands of the people:

• It bans partisan gerrymandering, measuring the fairness of the maps using quantitative metrics of partisan fairness and concrete thresholds.

• It strengthens protections for communities of color by requiring districts be drawn to represent communities with shared interests, including those with shared racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic backgrounds.

• It requires a transparent and open process for state redistricting plans by incorporating public hearings and requiring public input

The bill is one step in our work to lay the groundwork for a fairer 2032 redistricting process — and we need to know if you are ready to speak up for it.
