Dear Neighbor,
As the 2024 Paralympics unfold in Paris, I’m proud to share that New Jersey is represented by some remarkable athletes, including Christie Raleigh Crossley, a para-swimmer from Toms River; Catarina Guimaraes, a track and field sprinter from Cranford; and four-time Paralympian Brian Siemann from Millstone. Their determination and spirit truly exemplify the best of our state, and we’ll be cheering them on as they compete for gold on the world stage.
With the new school year just beginning, I’m inviting all Middle and High School students in NJ’s 6th District to participate in the Congressional App Challenge. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase your creativity and tech skills, with the chance to have your app displayed in the Capitol for an entire year. Don’t miss out—register today: Congressional App Challenge Registration.
Federal Funding Secured for Regional Firefighter Taskforce
I’ve secured $154,530 in federal funding for the fire departments in Asbury Park, Long Branch, and Wall Township through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This funding will help train 48 firefighters from these three departments as part of a joint task force to handle confined space emergencies across our region. These are the kinds of critical investments that save lives and ensure our first responders have the training and resources they need to keep us safe. This effort hits close to home for me, after a tragic workplace accident in our district in 2022. I’m committed to continuing to bring federal dollars to our communities to support the brave men and women who protect us every day.
Standing Up for the FDA’s Authority on E-Cigarettes
I recently led a group of lawmakers in urging the Supreme Court to uphold the FDA’s authority to regulate e-cigarettes. We’re fighting to overturn a court decision that weakens the FDA’s ability to block the sale of flavored vaping products targeting kids. Flavors like “Milk and Cookies” and “Peachy Strawberry” don’t hide the threat to public health, and we’re committed to stopping Big Tobacco’s harmful influence.
Edison Solar Project Highlighted as a Model for Clean Energy
New Jersey recently received a $156 million federal grant through the Solar For All program, and this week I highlighted a project in Edison as an example of what’s possible with this investment. The Edison Solar Landscape project is under construction now and will provide energy savings to about 440 local households—half of which are low-to-moderate income. Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, which included these investments at my request, projects like this will save New Jersey families $250 million in energy bills while helping reduce harmful pollution. Clean energy shouldn’t be out of reach for anyone, and I’m excited that this initiative will make solar power accessible to 22,000 more households across our state.
$263.7 Million to Expand Broadband Access Across New Jersey
I’m excited to share that New Jersey’s plan to invest $263.7 million in federal funding to expand broadband access has been approved. This funding, made possible through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will help close the digital divide and ensure reliable, high-speed internet for communities across the state that have long been left behind. I fought to secure this funding because I believe every New Jerseyan should have access to the opportunities that come with reliable internet, whether it's for telehealth, education, or growing a small business.
