by Ben Johnson |
Congressional Republicans say House leadership will likely attach a bill to prevent illegal immigrants from voting in U.S. elections - a bill Republicans say is necessary for the "protection of citizenship and our national sovereignty"- to a must-pass government funding bill as a precondition for avoiding a government shutdown. |

by Sarah Holliday |
Christian missionaries in Nicaragua have faced the continuous threat of the country's authoritarian government. As The New York Times reported, "[R]eligious leaders have been among the biggest targets, harassed, arrested and forced into exile." As a result of this persecution, 13 pastors from the Mountain Gateway church had been put in jail with sentences that were supposed to last 12 to 15 years, each receiving $80 million in fines. But as of September 5, after nine months in prison, those pastors have officially been released. |

Fruits in Season: Love in the Time of Election |
by Jared Bridges |
Christians who walk by the Spirit should bear the Spirit's fruit, and the first fruit on the Apostle Paul's list in his letter to the Galatians is love. And while it may be counterintuitive to think of love having anything to do with elections, the season is a prime opportunity for Christians to display this first fruit. |

Outstanding - Ep. 130: Minnesota Educators, PELSB, and Freedom of Religion |
Podcast with Joseph Backholm and James Dickey |
What is going on for teachers in the land of 10,000 lakes? Host Joseph Backholm is joined by senior attorney at the Upper Midwest Law Center, James Dickey, for a conversation unpacking what teachers are going through in Minnesota. Recently, the Professional Educator Licensing Standards Board in Minnesota declared that teachers must affirm the gender of their students - and if they don't, they "can teach at a private school" (direct quote from the state). James and his law firm are standing in the gap for teachers as the state takes a very controversial position requiring all public school teachers to conform to their standards or not be licensed to teach in Minnesota. Give this episode a listen to learn more about how Minnesota and Governor Walz are infringing upon Minnesotans' personal freedoms. |

A 'Conservative' Case against Tennessee's SAFE Act? |
by Joshua Arnold |
With the U.S. Supreme Court scheduled this fall to hear and rule on a novel challenge to the Tennessee law protecting minors from gender transition procedures, everybody wants to weigh in for and against the law. On Tuesday, 31 people describing themselves as "Republicans and political conservatives from diverse backgrounds who have served as federal, state, and local officeholders or as senior advisors to such officials" filed a brief opposing the Tennessee law and endorsing the challenge brought by the Biden administration's Department of Justice. |

Pastor: Harris and Democrats Use 'Marxist Tactics' and 'Division' to Promote Abortion, Racism |
by Sarah Holliday |
In January, Vice President Kamala Harris launched her nationwide abortion circuit - the so-called "Fight for Reproductive Freedoms" tour. As Mary Szoch, Family Research Council's director of the Center for Human Dignity said previously, the reality is that "Harris's tour championing 'reproductive freedom' isn't about freedom at all." Rather, it's yet another example of how the vice president has chosen "to use her power to promote killing unborn children." Now, as the official Democratic presidential nominee, it seems nothing has changed as the Harris-Walz campaign makes abortion their top priority. |

Vermont Christian School Appeals Punishment for Affirming 'that Boys Are Boys and Girls Are Girls' |
by Sarah Holliday |
In the fight over allowing biological males in women's sports, a Christian school in Vermont finds itself in court - again. Last year, Mid Vermont Christian School accused the Vermont Principals' Association (VPA), the "governing body for high school sports and activities for the state's 300 public and private secondary schools," and Vermont state officials of religious discrimination for kicking them out of the state sports league after refusing to compete against a biological male in girls' basketball. |

Who are the Republicans and Conservatives Opposing the Tennessee SAFE Act? |
by Joshua Arnold |
In an amicus ("friend of the court") brief filed with the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday, a group of professed "Republicans and political conservatives from diverse backgrounds who have served as federal, state, and local officeholders or as senior advisors to such officials" have weighed in on the upcoming challenge to Tennessee's law protecting minors from gender transition procedures. The brief subverts expectations by siding against the Republican-led bill, and with the Biden administration's Department of Justice, which has challenged it. But the appended list of signatories to the brief attests to the minority status of those who hold this view. |
