Dear John,

The UK Parliament has just started sitting again and I've wasted no time in standing up for constituents over winter fuel payments and other key concerns that local people have about Labour's plans.

Here are some key issues I've been focusing on and some things I've said recently that I want to make you aware of.

Firstly, since many of you have asked who I'm supporting in the Scottish Conservative leadership contest, I want to make you aware that ** I'll be voting for Russell Findlay MSP. ([link removed])

Russell has the life experience and character to unite our party. In addition to my support, he has already won the backing of Borders MSP Rachael Hamilton and the majority of Borders councillors.

I believe Russell has the determination, vision and the broad appeal to deliver election success, too.

I was Ruth Davidson’s campaign manager in 2011 and I recognise a lot of the same strengths in Russell as she had. He’s positive, determined and he connects with people. He has my vote and I hope he'll have yours too.

This week in the House of Commons, I challenged the Labour government over their decision to cut winter fuel payments for elderly people across the UK.

Age Scotland has said this move will take money from a quarter of a million pensioners in Scotland living in poverty or low incomes - and hundreds of thousands more elderly people will struggle too.

Labour have cut it across the UK - and the SNP are doing their dirty work in Scotland by also limiting this payment.

I'll continue to stand up for local residents who need this money to pay bills and go about their everyday lives.
