Opinion: A No-Cost Way to Save US Clean Energy Jobs During the Crisis ([link removed] )

Greentech Media published this industry perspective article by AEE CEO Nat Kreamer: "The public health crisis of COVID-19 has brought much of the U.S. economy to a halt. While the most visible impacts have been in hotels and restaurants, the advanced energy industry has been hit hard as well. Specific relief that’s needed now can sustain the industry through the crisis and ensure that it is ready to drive economic recovery when the crisis has passed. Best of all, this relief will cost U.S. taxpayers nothing today — and if done right, it will boost U.S. manufacturing tomorrow." Click here to continue reading on Greentech Media> ([link removed] )

The 100% Solution: How States Across the U.S. Are Determining Their Own Clean Energy Futures ([link removed] )

In the past five years, 100% clean or renewable has become the new standard of ambition in energy policy. As the map above shows, states across the U.S. are embarking on a path to a 100% clean energy supply. Today roughly one in three Americans lives in a state, county, or city committed to 100% clean energy. The latest to join the club is Virginia, which in April passed the Virginia Clean Economy Act, making it the first southeastern state to set a 100% target. This would have been unthinkable a few years ago, when AEE began work in the Commonwealth. But now, for a growing number of states, declining costs and clear economic benefits are making clean energy not just a policy aspiration but a compelling value proposition. FPL’s SolarTogether Points Florida toward a Sunnier Future ([link removed] )

Florida, the Sunshine State, has always had good reason to develop solar power, but has still lagged behind other states. More recently, the case for Florida solar has strengthened even more. The price of solar has fallen by 36% in Florida over the last five years. This low-cost, fixed-price resource is particularly attractive to companies with commitments to renewable energy, including General Electric and Disney, while cities like Orlando, Sarasota, and Tallahassee that have established 100% renewable energy targets. Despite the economics of solar and commitments from companies and municipalities, Florida has not taken the lead on solar. The recent approval of a major solar program for customers of one utility will not do it all, but it’s a good start. Click here to continue reading the blog post ([link removed] )

Opportunity in the Old Dominion: What the Virginia Clean Economy Act Means for Business ([link removed] )

Live on Tuesday, May 19, at 3pm ET / 12noon PT

On April 11, Gov. Ralph Northam signed the Virginia Clean Economy Act (VCEA), making Virginia the first state in the Southeast United States to commit to 100% clean energy and setting 2045 as the target for reaching that goal. The new law sets specific requirements for energy efficiency, renewable energy (onshore and offshore), energy storage, and more. This makes Virginia, long a laggard in energy policy, a prime target for advanced energy growth, providing savings for consumers and jobs and investment for the Commonwealth. In this webinar, one of the legislative patrons of the VCEA and representatives of advanced energy companies will discuss how the Act came to fruition and the opportunities for industry growth and economic benefit made possible by this landmark new law.

Panelists:

- Sen. Jennifer McClellan (D-9th District)
- Devin Welch, Chief Executive Officer, SunTribe Solar
