A county-by-county interactive analysis of inflation-adjusted wages |
Wisconsin is split. A county-by-county analysis shows that while some residents are seeing real growth in their wages — 12% in Lafayette County, for instance, between 2019 and 2023 — others are falling behind the rise in prices.
For an increasing number of families in places such as Waukesha County — where inflation-adjusted wages are down almost 2.6% over the same period of time — that means there is no longer enough to put food on the table. |
Mediocre Wisconsin looks good in comparison to tax hells to the west and south |
Wisconsin is hardly a taxpayer’s paradise, unless you look to its neighboring states to the south and the west. People are leaving Illinois, Minnesota and Iowa and, according to a new study by the Tax Foundation, the loss of state revenue and the population migration are closely tied to punitive tax structures in those states.
The three states ranked in the lowest third of states nationally in a ranking of states determined by a combined loss of residents, income tax filers and a loss of adjusted gross income based on that migration, between 2021 and 2022, according to the study. |

The Badger Institute and Concordia University have invited the distinguished fellow for Save Our States to speak next Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the campus.
