Hi Friend,
Rosmina and Monni are twin sisters living in the Balukhali refugee camp in Bangladesh. Born in Myanmar, the girls fled to safety along with their family in 2018 when they were just three years old, around the same time their parents, Julekh and Roshidul, noticed that they couldn't tolerate sunlight.
Imagine their worry; not only were they fleeing their homeland in search of refuge in a new land, but they were also in need of specialist care otherwise their precious babies would be at risk of permanent blindness.
As the twins grew, they adapted to their surroundings using a white cane to navigate their world. They had found safety in Bangladesh, but what are the chances of finding specialist eye care in a refugee camp?
Well, thanks to supporters like you, they found the care they needed. A community worker from an Orbis partner hospital knocked on their door and referred the twins to an Orbis vision center where they were diagnosed with bilateral cataracts and sent for surgery at the Chittagong Eye Infirmary Training Complex—another Orbis partner hospital.
Julekh and Roshidul wanted to share their happiness with Orbis supporters, telling us, “We are overjoyed to see Rosmina and Monni reading books and sketching with colored pencils after their surgery.”
With the girls adding, “We’re thrilled to be able to see our parents, go to school, play with our friends, and see everything around us."
It’s only thanks to people like you that we can get eye care to the people who need it the most.
Thank you for everything.
Team Orbis
