[ [link removed] ]Welch for Vermont

Hi Friend,

On this day in 1870, Louisa Swain became the first woman in the U.S. to
vote in a general election. It took decades after that moment for the 19th
amendment to be ratified and women everywhere to secure the right to
vote.

It was a long, hard fought victory. And once that right was established,
advocates continued their work to make sure there was no going back.

There are echoes of that pivotal moment in our fight today. For decades,
women in this country have had the right to abortion. Patients have had
the right to make choices about their own bodies. But Republicans and
their appointees on the Supreme Court have rolled back the clock and
allowed states around the country to ban abortion.

And they’re not done. Abortion, IVF, birth control, all are at risk if
Republicans control Congress or the White House. We can’t let that
happen.

Swain’s name is one that is etched in history books. When we look back on
this time period generations from now, will it be written that we allowed
Republicans to take control and end reproductive rights one by one? Or
will it show that we rose up together to protect reproductive freedom for
every person in America?

We have the power to decide the outcome of this election and our future.
We must elect Democrats up and down the ballot.

Thanks,

Peter
