Last month, we started distributing backpacks to kids and families who needed a little help affording school supplies this year. We had hoped to help as many families as we did last year — 1,115 — before the first day of school in NYC. We even gave out backpacks at two community events last night!
Today 2,700 kids are starting off the year with a new backpack and supplies — and it’s all thanks to the astronomical support of this grassroots movement.
We teamed up with public housing leaders, community organizations, houses of worship, food pantries and local elected officials to give thousands of kids a strong start to the school year with pencils, pens, crayons, erasers, notebooks, rulers, and a backpack.
We know you’re here because you support a different kind of elected leader: one building power for working communities, rooted in collective action, and fighting for a brighter future for all — and there’s more work to do.
