John,
With the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) passing the Senate in July1, and Congress back in session on Monday, pro-censorship lawmakers in the House have one final chance to raise a vote on this disastrous bill. And with just a few working weeks left before the election, they could pull out all the stops to pass it quickly. Can you pitch in to fuel the fight to kill KOSA through this last stretch?
DONATE NOW
We’ve been fighting tooth and nail to protect your freedom to access online content2, something this bill would hamstring in the name of “child safety.” We want to protect kids, too– but we know that letting Congress dictate which topics are “appropriate” for certain Internet users to see is a slippery slope to cutting vulnerable kids off from vital information and community.
Plus, its overly-broad language incentivizes the rise of age verification regimes and ID checks online. KOSA side steps all the tangible actions we could be taking to address the harms of Big Tech and instead goes straight for surveillance and censorship. We can’t let up the pressure until this bill, and all the Bad Internet Bills3 like it, are finally dead. Will you make a donation of any size to sustain campaigns against bad bills like KOSA?
SUSTAIN THE FIGHT
KOSA co-sponsor and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is pressing for a vote on the bill “immediately and without changes,” claiming it has broad support across both parties.4 But the truth is, most people with Internet freedom on their radar are seeing straight through this bill. We’ve mobilized hundreds of thousands of Internet freedom fighters to contact their lawmakers, dozens of civil rights groups to voice their opposition, and gotten progressive House members like AOC and Maxwell Frost on our side2—we know we’re on the right side of history.
But with politicians surely feeling the election season pressure to extract last-minute “wins” to campaign on, we have to ensure that representatives in the House understand KOSA’s harms and commit to leaving it to rest. We’re making sure to hold Congress accountable on KOSA till the very end. Will you send $5, $10, or $50 today in support?
Thanks for your support on this, John. We win when people like you take collective action. So, no matter how small, anything you can spare helps immensely. If you can’t pitch in today, please consider sending your representatives a reminder about your opposition to KOSA and sharing ways to help at StopKOSA.com.
Until we win,
Alex at ❤️Fight
