John, what happened yesterday in Georgia is every parent's, teacher’s, student’s, and community’s worst nightmare.
An environment that is supposed to be a safe haven for learning and growing was turned into a place of chaos and trauma.
My heart is broken. To the community of Apalachee High School and Winder, Georgia, I’m sorry.
I’m sorry that our country has failed to keep you safe. I’m sorry that right now, countless elected officials will offer their endless “thoughts and prayers” – but no solutions that will actually save lives.
Our hearts are broken. Again. But we refuse to live like this. It’s time to do what we have to so this won’t happen to another school, family or community.
We created Teachers Unify to ensure educators' voices are part of crafting the solutions we need. And we won’t stop fighting until every child and teacher feels safe – and is safe – in their school and wider community.
We’re here. We’re fighting. And we’re not stopping until we’re all safe from this public health crisis.
Tomorrow, and every day after, we will wake up and continue this fight. And we hope that you will continue to fight along with us.
