The extremists’ strategy to keep Missouri’s near total and complete abortion ban in place even if a majority of voters decide to overturn it in November is starting to come into view.
Polls show that a majority of voters support repealing Missouri’s near total abortion ban that makes no exceptions for incest or rape—so the GOP extremists in power are preparing a legislative end-run in the event that Amendment 3 is approved by voters in November.
No matter what happens with Amendment 3, anti-choice extremists have pledged that they will pass a law which would provide the same legal rights and protections for embryos and fetuses as a person who has been born. It’s their “fetal personhood” law and its ramifications are widespread and terrifying. This move would classify every abortion at any point after conception, for almost any reason, as murder—and would effectively outlaw in vitro fertilization (IVF). |
