Jack, Daily Kos prides itself on delivering news you can do something about. What does that mean, though?
Daily Kos is a news site, covering stories that often don't get enough attention from traditional outlets, like this one about Donald Trump pressuring House Republicans to shut down the government because he subscribes to a racist conspiracy theory. While our content team is digging into stories like this, our activism team is working to connect our readers to actions that make sure Trump never gets anywhere near the White House again—just check out our Get Out The Vote actions on Mobilize.
Working at the intersection of news and activism has been very good for Daily Kos over the past decade, but this year we were hit by a double whammy. News outlets have been gutted by a sharp decline in ad revenue in recent years. On top of that, grassroots donations—which make up a large majority of our income—took a major hit too, a trend that was not unique to us.
The long and the short of it is that ad revenue and fundraising have declined at the worst possible time. We need a robust news team to hold Trump accountable for his lies and an activism team that can Get Out The Vote for Kamala Harris and Democrats up and down the ballot.
With Labor Day in the rearview mirror, your inbox is going to get hammered with emails from candidates running for office. Daily Kos can't compete with that deluge. That's why I'm asking you to start a monthly recurring donation to Daily Kos now, so that we have the resources to continue working through the election and beyond.
Daily Kos is the country's largest news and activism hub, but we are not immune to the financial hardships that have plagued both news outlets and progressive advocacy organizations. We need your help to keep fighting. Our average donation is just $9.44. Can you support Daily Kos and our work with a monthly donation of $9.44?
