Dear community,
This week, we’re proud to share that six transgender youth from across the U.S. have bravely spoken up for their right to be themselves in an amicus brief filed by the Transgender Law Center (TLC) and our partners in the case U.S. v. Skrmetti . This case challenges Tennessee's ban on gender-affirming care for trans youth under 18, a fight that impacts all of us who believe in the freedom to live authentically.
Why This Matters:
In a country where over 60% of people agree that transgender individuals should have the freedom to be themselves, these laws are out of step with the values of respect and dignity that unite us. As Leo Walsh, an 18-year-old from Ohio, said, "Trans youth are more than their identity. They deserve the respect to simply be themselves and live their lives."
We Are On the Winning Team:
Together, we are part of a growing majority that believes in a future where everyone—transgender or not—is respected for who they are. Our fight is about building a bigger we, where the freedom to be ourselves is a right we all share.
What You Can Do:
1. Stay Informed : Follow us on social media for the latest updates on this case.
2. Amplify Our Message : Share our Instagram slides to spread the word and build support.
3. Support Trans Youth : Your donation to TLC helps us continue the fight for a future where everyone is respected and free.
The Supreme Court will hear U.S. v. Skrmetti this fall, and we expect a decision by the summer of 2025. Now more than ever, your support can make a difference. Together, we can ensure that everyone has the respect and freedom to live as their true selves.
In solidarity,
Shawn Thomas Meerkamper
